And yes I know how many that was awarded .......

And gone to the same buyer for approx 1400 Euro

I think the guy is a swede. More bargains to be had at the Probus auction.

    2. I don't have the number times this 1912 Sweden Olympic medal was awarded. However from the roster of Swedes and foreigner participants involved in the 1912 Olympic games in some official capacity I would say it was much more than 50. Perhaps 500 or 1,000. I don't know. It is still a rare enough medal.

I have a list of German participants at the Games. While it is not a long one, but it isn't so short that it would have been easy to ID the medalbar. (And it doesn't have first names.)

Although others may have sources. Did RaZpuTIN say he was checking on recipients of the Vasa Order? Although I'm sure many Germans who received the 1912 Olympic medal may also have received the Vasa Order, but it might have narrowed the field.

Also, I don't know if anyone know the particulars to the Romanian Cross or the number of recipients?

Could you post the list of Germans? Even without the vorname, cross referencing might narrow it down considerable.

    3. wait a minute! I don't think the 1912 Olympic medal on this medal bar is the Competition medal "in silver". This medal was a seperate award for Swedes and foreigners who were special officials or in olympic committees.

Sorry, got bit too excited. But the participator medal is on the rolls as well, there will be alot of more work looking through them now and won't be able to pin pointing it.

    6. That's one GREAT item.

      Very nice indeed..............pure quality.

I don't know the history behind it...........but I'm turning green.

Here's something I picked up last week for 30 Euro............KPM porcelain plate commemorating 200th anniversary of Fritz's death.

I bought it at a flea market nearby. Unfortunately I wasn't the only that saw it, so we commenced a bidding war, with me walking away as the victor at 40E. Feeling good but a bit little bit annoyed at the fact that I could had it at considerably less, if the other guy hadn't walked up at the same time as me.

    7. Yes, it adds some character to the cross. But I would rather have the original catch left. ;)

It's very nice to see a straight Meybauer pin for a change, they use to be rather beaten up.

They are now known as the three stooges. If anyone knows where i can find a Meybauer Schinkel 1939 pinback, please let me know. :cat:

    8. Ahhh... yes... Scandanavian soldiers/Winter depression and booze...

I spent a cold, cold winter in Bosnia With Swedes and Norweigians... never a lack of booze... For a few months I to was walking around with balls of Snus compacted between my gums and lips... learned how to drink and even smoke without removing the chewing tabacco... on occasion even to eat with it in...

Snus.. A little bit of heaven left on earth.

    9. It is not to say that one cannot be brave and slime at the same time.

I have an EK1 to a U-Boot man, he was on the U-55... the boat most known for war crimes...

In one instance they collected all the survivors onto the front of the u-boot, destroyed all the life rafts... then dived, leaving all the survivors to drown.

May have been a brave man... but slime all the same....

The U-55 from WWI or WWII? I see that latter one sank some Swedish neutral vessels. This awakes bad blood, as my grandfather were serving on these kinds of boats outside and inside the blockade, suffered alot from the peril and had friends that were lost.
