    1. This will be my first non Bavarian item which got my attention because it most likely belonged to a doctor. It has not arrived from Mr. Beck yet but I could not wait to show you and ask couple of questions.

So what we have here is:

      1) EK2 for non combatants

      2) Prussian Kriegshilfdienst cross

      3) Red Eagle - question is which class? Medal only or 4th class?

      4) Red cross medal - I suppose it's 3rd class as I think 2nd and 3rd class were allowed to be worn together, so 1 ribbon only means 3rd class

      5) Prussian Long Service cross - 25 years, right? He was in already in 1897 so 15 years would not be the case

      6) German South West Africa - no idea what was this for...some battles in the colonies?

      7) Centennial Medal

As far as I understood from Paul's "Researching German pre 1945 medal bars" topic this one cannot be identified as there are no award rolls for non-comb EK2s and Prussian DRK :(

And here it is, using photo from dealer:

    2. Lovely bar! But how are chances the long service cross is replaced? The bar would be textbook Bavarian pre-WW1 Hauptmann or Major if it were a cross for 24 years. The combination as is - extremely odd. I do not like it, while all awards and the bar look pretty fine.

The MVO is by Leser, isn't it? And marks are "980" and "J.L."?

Absolutely correct, Jacob Leser hallmarked J.L., cross 980, ring 900.

I wonder, should I obtain then 24 year service cross? Hope I would be able to replace it if necessary.

    3. Hello folks...

...question to the medal-bar 'analyzers'. Who would you say was the owner of the bar.

What I can read from it is that

      - he was not in any battle/war in 19th century as there's no Centennial medal

      - he did not participate in the WW1 as the MVO is on a peace time ribbon and without swords, there's no EK2 nor Honor Cross

So we have a very short period of time between 1897 and 1914 where this guy had to be active. 15 years LS cross only confirms this.

Are we talking here about lieutenant or captain who was in some training camp screamin' on his 'Manschaft' but who never held a leadership position in fight?

      Thanks for any opinions.

    4. This one dropped in while I was in Bratislava at work-not in perfect condition, but hey-it could be worse......the unmarked variation was one big hole in my collecion8years ago I had one but it was so bad that I decided to sell it without an upgrade in the hand). The other one you have seen before-fully marked DOV with two screws!

      Micha

Where exactly did you get it? I live in Bratislava for 30 years and never even thought that I could get an EKI here speechless1.gif

      Regards, Viliam.

    5. It will not let me view the site it wants me to log into WINDOWS OUTLOOK??

      Lorenzo

I'm having same problem. Seems that the article is only for certain group of people registered at gulfcoast.edu.

Anyway here's an interesting reading as well:

    6. Hello,

all the pieces are made by J. Leser.

Regarding the first piece you have to wait for someone how knows how the 2nd form looked like. Me as 3rd form collector I can only see a 3rd form 3rd class with strange silver look on the photo.

2nd piece is my opinion nothing else than the 2nd class with swords removed. It is very easy to remove the swords from Leser pieces as they are attached with a screw only. You always need to be suspicious when you see that triangular hole. :ninja:

Piece no. 3 looks slightly different. Here I'm not sure whether the swords were once there or not...I have never seen a piece without swords made by Leser but this one looks good (definitely better than no. 2) :catjava:

    7. Hello,

I just won this one on eBay. Before it arrives I'd like to know which Austrian award is missing on 3rd place and obtain it. Ribbon is not much of help to me as it seems that at least half of Austrian bravery awards shared the same white-red ladder ribbon. I'm sure that some of the medal bar experts here would know the key which I believe is buried in the combination of awards...

Thank you in advance for help.

    8. Not seems....

IT "IS" original ( let me know also my dear Slovakian friend about these Bavarians as I collect them also some time now ;) )

As for the enamel, it's not a manufacturer defect, some of them was out there in the field exposed to various war and weather conditions.

Now that I took some time to make a new shot, feel free to take a pic of your new Medal Bar to see what style is (If it's Bavarian style or plain I mean)

      Kind regards

      Emanuel

      So here it is...

EK2 is marked either WS or SM.
