While I'm certainly not an "expert" on TR head gear I did collect for quite awhile. I'm put off by this cap for three observations:
1) The sweatband is that grey material generally associated with post WW2 West German caps
2) There is no shield in the crown of the cap, nor any trace of one except for the stitching marks which may mean the whole shield was removed to conceal an incorrect manufacturing mark or wrong materials for the TR period.
3) The white piping appears "fuzzy" in the picture. This would be incorrect for a period cap.
Hope this helps a bit,
Garth

I recently aquired this RAOB cased medal. I wouldn't normally pick up Masonic items but the IRAQ banner intrigued me. Can any member give me any information on this piece; time frame, etc or the individual H.H.SALES whose name is on the reverse. The case lid has the name of CASMORE & CO. Birmingham.
Thanks,
Garth

Hello Garth,
I think it is a french production of an african insignia's beret. Lyon is a french city but I have never see this kind of insignia on the beret of our (I am French) soldiers.
Also, the disc's edges on the french insgnia's beret are more wide.
French companies make commonly insignias, uniforms ... etc. for the former french african colonies.
Andre,
Thank you for the message. Another ID I got from a different forum tentatively ID'd the badge as French Air Force Escadrille F554.

Does anyone recognize this badge as a French unit insignia? It is roughly the size of a US DI about 1 1/4" in diameter smaller than a beret badge.
Thanks for any help.

Paul,
Thanks for your reply but I don't have the piece in hand or available at this time. Could you give me a rough estimate or range.
Thanks again,
Garth

Carl,
While wood was used in several WW2 aircraft I would think not in a jet due to the stresses, tempratures and operating altitudes. However I'm pretty sure the factory would have used a carpenter to make assembly jigs and the like since both the aircraft were prototypes and most likely hand built.

I have the opportunity to pick up a 2nd Empire LoH breast star. It appears to be an original period piece made by a French medallist and in VG condition. I'm wondering what would be a fair price to pay?
Thanks,
Garth

Hello,
The photograph below shows my wife's grandfather (in the centre) who was employed as a carpenter at Farnborough during the war. Can anyone identify the aircraft in the picture? The family story has it that it was in development and it was strictly against orders for them to take any photos of the aircraft. They don't seem too worried though do they!
Many thanks for your help.
Carl

Thanks in advance,

Do any of the members know what this bullion victorian badge is. It is the right size for an arm rank badge, roughly 3" x 3 1/2" with high quality embroidery on a dark green wool backing. Any thoughts welcome.

Kostas ....
TR = Third Reich
RK = Ritterkreuz (Knights Cross)
WAF = Wehrmacht Awards Forum
I've bought a lot of items off Barry over the years. However, in the last year or so I see more and more "questionable" pieces. Either poorly photoed with poorly worded Sales Paragraphs.
I always get additional pictures from any dealer. More so with e-medals. I must say, Jenn has always answered the call very promptly, however, there always seems to be something that puts me off. Either unadvertised marks, naming, flaws etc. Much more so recently than in years past.
Each time this happens, it leaves you with a suspicious feeling regarding any items they sell on that site.
Darrell,
Interesting you should comment on e-medals recent listings. I had always thought even though they were expensive the medals were very nice examples. I thought it was just my imagination the quality had gone down hill recently.

Thank you all for your help .
Sorry Garth but what does TR , RKs and WAF stands for? Something else, have you ever bought any medals from this site? I totally agree about the prices-they are way high . However, occusionally it has some very good and rare items. I don't know......you can never be certain!!!!!!!!!!
Kostas
Kostas,
Sorry for the abbreviations TR = Third Reich, RK = Ritter Kreuz or Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, WAF = Wehrmacht Awards Forum. The emedals site does have some rare pieces but I personally think the prices are way out of line. I do check from time to time.

I am no expert on MOHs but i am very suspect of any thing from EMedals!! US ,imperial german TR seen some bogus stuff in his site mixed up with original overpriced stuff! IMO
None of his MoHs were original and most of his other US medals were at least reribboned poorly if not copies or current strikes. Everything I've ever lookied at on the site are grossly overpriced. He does have a couple of TR RKs that have recieved a positive blessing from the WAF experts.

Question about a South Africa 1853 Medal
in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Posted
I recently aquired a South Africa Medal to 3283 Pte. L. Hutchinson 74th (Highland) Regiment. It is all properly named and the man is on the rolls. My question concerns the brooch on which DUNO STATION is engraved. The question being what and where is Duno Station and how might it relate to the 74ths service in Africa?
Thank you for any replies,
Garth
