    1. If need be, I shall try to go into this in detail :banger: but:

-- This is NOT -- as I am told -- a Soviet uniform, it is said to be a Mongolian uniform, and should not have all these foreign Soviet awards, mounted Soviet style. It seems (from the description, catagory placement, and tiny-small off-forum virus-infested images) to be a Mongolian uniform.

-- Such profligate Soviet awards would not have been given to a Mongolian. It is another country. Soviet awards to Mongols are uncommon. And where are the Mongolian awards?? The collections of awards here are, freankly, laughable for any Mongolian. Even a Buriyat! And the addition of these lunatic-fantasy awards has obliterated the tunic's reclaimable history.

-- This mounting style and awards arrangmentwould have been as used by Mongolia (see multiple images in this sub-forum, please), not by the CCCP.

-- Any hypothetical belt would normally have been of the Mongolian style, not the Soviet. But this is the least of the issues.

Maybe better images, posted normally, would help?

      Am I missing something here?!?!?!?!

Yes, I simply want the Mongolian belt and buckle and nothing else. Copy?

      Vince

    2. I have to assume all these orders and medals are no more than fantasy additions, as they're the wrong things, in the wrong positions. Just extra rogue holes poked in the uniform that will confuse fiture owners. :(

      Hello Ed,

I purchased this item in 1992 on a business trip to Volgograd. It is what it is. There were no "fantasy" uniforms in Russia at that time. I was there and 6 additional times as well between the years 1992 and 1994. I brought back many uniforms (NKVD, Army, etc) before I even knew what they were.

Many were direct family purchases done in a very descrete manner as they thought we were the Militia trying to trap them into illegally selling STATE property.

It is a shame the collector community has become so paranoid, it started with the nazi stuff and now apparently it is in every facet of collecting.

I always welcome feedback from fellow collectors, even when it is not asked for. I am however looking for a Mongolian Officers leather belt and buckle to complete my display.

I welcome your assistance in this matter.

      Sincerely,

      Vince

    3. I too find it hard to fathom the jump in prices - It was less than a decade ago when I thought $35 for an EK2 was absurd...

Regradless - the market seems to demand that a maker marked EK2 in good shape (not mint) will run you about $100 for the ones with frosting on the bead probably about $150. Frightfuly they will probably continue to rise in price about $10-20 in price each year.

      Thank you,

Yes, I agree. Hold on to your wallet!

      Happy Holidays,

      Vince

      David M

      Hi David,

I'm sorry that I dont have the photos you are looking for but I did send your list to a friend who may be able to help. Can you tell me a little about Bulgaria's involvement with Germany during WW2. Like which campaigns were they involved in and major battles. I have a nice WW2 Bulgarian Officer's Uniform and am just now doing some research on it. I assume they were awarded German awards. Do you have any pictures of Bulgarians wearing Nazi awards?

      Thank you & Happy Hunting!

      Vince

    5. sftrooper86,

I agree whith Cahrles on the tunic being Bulgarian WWII. I have one very similar to your but without the excellent awards. Very nice tunic and welcome in any collection I am sure.

      Charles,

Either I forgot, or didn't know that you had posted your WWII Hungarian tunics on the GMIC. Superb reference material. Thanks for listing the URL. See you later this morning.

      Regards,

      Gordon

      Hello & Thanks Gordon,

Do you by chance have any contacts for a visor cap to complete this outfit? I dont know anyone who deals in Bulgarian.

      Thanks,

      Vince

    6. Hi Vince,

Have the clearer pictures changed your opinion on this shield or are you going to stand by these comments?

      Thanks,

      Joe

      Hi Joe,

The clearer photos you have submitted of your fake shield just cement my findings. I guess we will have just agree to disagree. When you have been doing this as long as I have been you will know that opinions are like buttocks. Everyone has one, and unfortunately some stink. Besides you should not feel too bad about collecting fakes, that's how we learn.

      Happy Hunting!

    7. I am afraid that Hamburg dealers are hardly the yardstick by which one should judge originality, Phil. This badge does not conform in a number of ways to any known originals I have seen. The hinge is worrying but the Wehrmachtadler's head is even more troublng. I hope Vince did not pay too much for it. There again, as an object to dress a tunic mannequin, it is perfectly OK. Vince, didn't we do business before once? Were you not the guy who responded to some ads of mine, agreed a sale and then evaporated? Or am I confusing you with someone else?

      PK

      Hello,

Which item were you selling and when? I just got home from Iraq about 3 months ago. I tried a little commo from there but our uplinks were not always reliable. If I was me I appologize but have to blame my Uncle Sam for any technical difficulties.

Please let me know though, I am now interested in the evaporation comment.

      My best,

      Vince

    8. Hi,

I am inclined to think this badge is ok....cant give a reason but I just think it is. I would prefer to judge it with it in my hand but of course that cant happen. Have a look at this one which I think is the same.

      Thanks again Phil,

There may still be hope for this hobby yet!

    9. Hi,

I note no one is rushing in on this one and I can only guess why but I thought I would throw my two pence in for what its worth... (two pence I guess).

I belong to the side of badge collecting that feels very strongly that too much paranoia is going around the collecting community at the moment and many good badges are getting binned by persons who suffer greatly from this problem or persons who have no idea at all but like to make a name for themselves and repeat what somebody else said. Now..... having said that I would like to think this badge is genuine and if it is its a real nice badge but I see things I dont like in it. Do you have this badge at the moment? I would like to see the edges of the badge because I have yet to see a fake Heer flak badge that has not been cast. So if you have it check the edges for signs of bad molding and check the dimensions against the dimensions of known examples. I dont go much on wieght but that is just me. If you are thinking about purchasing it from where ever then obtain a return if not satisfied guarantee and take a risk.

Well thats my two pence worth. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

      Phil

      Hi Phil,

Thank you for your two pence! I could not agree more. I historically have always been a visor cap/tunic collector and only dabbled in badges to dress my tunics. It is certinly a field in itself as you mentioned. No I do not currently have this badge.

      Thank you & Cheers!

      Vince

    10. The Narvik shield that started this post is often referred to as the "small 4 fake". I will try to post better pictures of mine. In the meantime you can read this thread, it pretty much sums up my point.

      http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...highlight=small

Yes, I guess that means that there is only one manufacturer! That is why I no longer collect badges. There are 1000 fakes for every real one, and no one has the fakes!

      End of story here Gents!

    11. Hi very interesting piece. These are as rare as an ashtray on a motorcycle, any real provenance as to authenticity, it looks in mighty fine condition for it's age

      regards

      Alex K

No, unfortunately I do not have the General's name it was part of an estate buy in Germany 30 years ago when I got it from a friend. Too late to research it further both the General and my friend are dead so thats all I have. You are right it is one of the finest know examples to exist.

      Happy Hunting,

      Vince

    12. No need to be rude. I am only trying to help. This is what a real one looks like from this maker.

Rude is not at all what that was. This is a just perfect example of a person (you) who has no idea what you are talking about telling someone (me) an unsubstantiated claim that their item is a fake. Your's sir is the fake, and I will list the reasons why so you can compare them side by side to see what I am talking about.

      1. The lower section of the laurel wreath containing the swastika is flattened and does not show the clear detail as seen on my example. Poor workmanship found on known cast fakes.

      2. The letters N, R, & K are flawed. Common in known cast fakes.

      3. The edelweiss flower has no sharp details as can be found on mine, another sign of poor casting.

      4. The upper corner near the number 40 has a casting flaw, extra material commonly found on poorly cast fakes.

      5. The steam of the edelweiss flower is also not clearly defined as is the upper section of the anchor, again the sharp details found on real pieces has these details where your cast copy does not.

      6. The center of the propeller is not a clearly defined hollow circle, again a perfect example of a cast fake.

      7. The rings on the propellers are also not sharply defined, a casting fault.

      8. The entire right side of your cast badge below the word NARVIK is loaded with extra material and lacks the sharp details as found on original pieces.

      9. The rope on the anchor shows no fine details in regards to the twisted rope as found on correct pieces.

I could go on buy frankly I find this an exercise in futility. Details my friend, details! If they are not there is a poorly cast copy. I suggest you place the photos side by side and read my notes. When a side by side comparison is done there is other conclusion a knowledgeable person can come to other than yours is a poorly cast copy.

I have been doing this for over 40 years now and unfortunately do take offense when someone who has no idea of what they are talking about has the gall to call one of my items a fake.

I hope this will help you in your quest for knowledge. You need it! If you think this is rude you need to grow up. Just for your information, the members on this forum are some of the most knowledgeable people in this hobby. It is just common courtesy and respect not to snipe at other peoples property and try to justify it by saying I was just trying to help. No one appreciates it and when you have no idea of what you are talking about it reflects poorly on you.

There will be no charge for this lesson!
