    1. 750$! I only payed about 180$ for this, guess I was lucky then. Again, thank you for your help on this and have a nice day a l e x
    2. This picture shows better how huge this medal is in comparing to my lion and sun breast star…
    3. Hello Gentlemen Thank you very much for your help, I'm very excited to have proof that this is actually the breast star! So, I have a few additional questions now: - So you think this is the 2th Class star because of the Box? - Is there any chance to date this medal? - I'm just curious, is this a rare medal and has some value? I just ask because the dealer didn't actually knew what he sold, and I didn't pay much for it. Here is a Picture of the Box opened
    4. The Box and the Backside of the Medal… I forgot to mention; this medal is Huge, about 10cm in aperture.
    5. Once again I seek the expertise of this Forum! This came to my collection recently and the French dealer hadn't much information, it is obvious Vietnamese and pre 1975. I also mentioned that it looks a bit like the National Order of Vietnam from which I read also exists a Grand Cross. Could this be the Grand Cross of the Order of Vietnam?? (I didn't found a picture of a Grand Cross anywhere) Thank you a l e x
    6. Hello Gentlemen I'm not a Edged Weapon collector and have zero knowledge. But years ago I inherited this Sword from my Grandfather. So all I know about this is that he got it from this father, who was in the swiss cavalry around 1890-1910. Can someone tell me more about this sword, maybe the manufacturer? Is this a common peace or more the rare kind? this is my first post in this section of the forum so if you need any specific pictures let me know. thank you best regards a l e x
    7. just found this interesting site: http://www.qajarpages.org/qajorders.html
    8. could the one with the blank reverse probably also be a fake? there is no hook on the backside and it looks like there wasn't any in the past... but on the other hand I see no point in faking this medal at all, maybe it is simply a unfinished one. cheers a l e x
    9. Hello James Thank you very much for your answer! Like I said, it is so hard to find any good Information about this order and I'm very happy for your add! Your right, the lion and sun motif appears on a lot of things in Iran, even today, I visited Tehran two years ago and it is omnipresent like "Garuda" Thailand. Thanks for the info about the face, I didn't knew that. About the colors: I asked a well known seller who claim Persian Orders as this specialty. I thought exactly the same thing how could they have 3 versions of this medal? If that is so we would see probably as many black and red orders as we see the green one. The fact about the yellow one could be truth. But I will ask again maybe he can explain his theories? What do you think about, that most German made medals have the word "silber" engraved? this is my own thought after comparing a lot of different medals. So thank you again for your help, I hope we can gather more knowledge or good pictures on this... cheers a l e x PS: I will contact the author of the wikipedia article when I have more good information about this, maybe he can correct/expand his article...

    12. the backside withe the word German "Silber" engraved in the clip...
    13. I start with my piece, which I belief to be manufactured in Germany...
    14. Hello Gentlemen I killed some Time recently searching around for some Information about this Medal because I'm looking forward to maybe expand my collection with some Persian medals. I only own a 1class breast star, I asked around by some sellers and of course googeld around for some hours. So here is what I found out so far: The Order of the Lion and the Sun was instituted by Fat’h Ali Shah of the Qajar Dynasty in 1808 to honour foreign officials (later extended to Persians) who had rendered distinguished services to Persia. In 1925, under the Pahlavi dynasty the Order continued as the Order of Homayoun with new insignia, though based on the Lion and Sun motif. (wikipedia) There are basically two versions of this medal, one where the lion in the center stands holding a sword and one were he just sits there. The standing Lion as a military award and the sitting lion as civilian award when it comes to the orders that were awarded to the foreigners. The awarding was not really that well structured, so many orders were awarded reverse specially, the ones that were awarded to other Iranians. These orders came in 3 different ray colors, black, red and green. The black was used at state and official funerals, the red was used for official celebration weddings and births of royal family children and the green for all other occasions. Sometimes you see also a Order with yellow rays, this is just the foundation for the Green ones, the few yellows that you see were either unfinished orders or repaired and re-enameled. There are also a few unofficial ones that were made privately. The biggest question mark for me is still how to date them or at least narrow the time frame down???? Also pinpointing where it was manufactured puzzles me, since there where many countries involved (Besides in Persia it was made of: France, Germany, Belgium, Russia)?????? the only clue I have here is that the pieces manufactured in Germany have the word "Silber" (German for Silver) engraved on the backside. I would love to see your lion and sun orders an would be happy If anyone can attach some more knowledge or maybe correct mine.
    15. This Medal was sold on ebay for about 1800$. I tried to bid on it but the price was far out of my league. Is this overpaid or a good price for this medal? The french speaking seller described it as a Chinese communication Medal 6th class (after 1911), it was in the original box as well. Does anyone have this medal in a higher class?? http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2009/post-6750-125231849863.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2009/post-6750-125231851848.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2009/post-6750-12523185709.jpg

      Golden Kite

So here is the Kite after cleaning… The hilts are still goldish but closer to silver than the rest of the medal. It's a shame that people simply gilde 7th class medals to make them look like 6th class! I will for sure keep that in mind when I visit Japan next year! cheers a l e x

      Golden Kite

So again thank you for all your help! I just cleaned the medal with some soap-water and surprise the two hafts are getting brighter than the rest of the medal! They are not quiet silver but they are clearly brighter than the rest. I never cleaned any of my medals before, I always thought let them age in peace I mean this thing is about 100 years old it deserves to look aged. But I'm also happy with the result. I don't want to rub any more soap on my medal so this should be enough to let me sleep ok again. And there Is also the case of a old 6th class kite which the medal came with. I'm still curious about regilded medals, does anyone have or have seen 7th class medals treated that way? Or does anyone have pictures of a regilded medal which originally was a 7th class? And why should someone do this? I also googeld TARN-X and found a lot of controversial information about this product, good and very bad ones. a l e x

ok, I took new Photos with a new Nikon D90 in unfiltered Daylight and without adjusting the color in Photoshop. Tim your right the first picture I took looks very dull und fake - again sorry for that. These Pictures should give a better Image of what the medal really looks like…
