    1. Huh! I think the residents of the city would have been happy to be liberated but not to think of themselves as being "captured" by their own side. :speechless1: Very weird for Finns not to speak Finnish correctly! Sounds like you guys beat bad American grammar/vocabulary by 40 years!:cheeky:

      Hi Rick,

As a matter of fact they were liberated. Lawfully elected government asked for German help against bolshevik backed reds. People of Helsinki were under unlawful revolutionary government. It is another matter if official name of the medal happens to be something else. I am not sure. I do not want to get involved with political argument. I am sure Mr. Jani Tiainen could help with the correct name. I think You are correct, "Capture" does not sound right.

      Thanks,

      P.

    2. What uniform is he wearing ?

Austria ? I haven?t seen a armbadge like this before

      Christer

First Picture is Swedish volunteer 1918 in Finland. Capt. Adolf Hamilton with Winter hat. Second is another swedish volunteer Colonel Ernst Linder who is wearing "Summer Cap". I would guess both uniforms look very much like the one in Thread opener.

    3. The German expedition to Finland landed in Hanko, Finland, on April 3. 1918.

Commander: Generalmajor Graf R?diger von der Goltz is in the picture on your left. I have several pictures of German troops in Finland, taken by finnish photographers. I would like to get in touch with person who might have pictures of german troops in Finland, taken by their own photographer.

    4. Chip, I've tried reading it a bit but a lot of it makes no sence to me. I converted it to English and much didn't make translation whereby a simpleton like me can understand.

      NICE CAP BADGE BTW.

I've been searching for a 27 Jaeger breast badge for a few years now. I've collected Finnish militaria for many years. If anyone would post images I'l like to see photos of the Finnish troops in Jaeger Btn 27.

Finnish Jaegers on Eastern Front. This picture wass taken in Latvia, Near Riga. I assume 1916-1917.

      Regards,

    5. Hello readers:

Another name which struck a bell is Heinrichs. I believe him to be the later Chief of Stff of the Finnish Army during the 1941-1944 war against the Soviet Union and highly decorated by both his country and Germany.

      Perhaps someone ca confirm this.

      Bernhard H. Holst

Hi Bernhard, You are right. Look at the picture couple postings ago. Heinrichs is no. 19.

      Sincerely,

      Petteri
