Reverse showing snaps and metal stiffening material.

Hi,
I recently purchased a nice pair of Signal Reserve Tabs with matching shoulder boards. Two items of interest are the snaps affixed to the rear of the tabs to ease attachment/removal from the summer uniform. Most noteworthy about these tabs, but which is not really evident in the scans, is the fact that the stiffening material used on these tabs is sheet metal! All references/regulations I have read state that the stiffening material was either cardboard of buckram/sack cloth.
Again this just reinforces the fact that the only rule for collecting some of these items is that the unexpected is to be expected!

Dear Paul,
Per Rick's comment; can you discuss the ribbon loops and award loops; as I recall there were some on this tunic.

There are signs of replaced collar tabs and perhaps shoulder boards. Although, the job seems to have been completed in a very professional manner and done long ago with non glowing thread..PM sent about the price of the tunic and trousers.

Hi,
Attached is a picture of Generaloberst Rudel, Chief of Luftwaffe Flak. You will note that his General officer insignia is colord differently than the standard white backing material for Luftwaffe Generals. Rudel had a red cloth backing to his General insignia. I believe he also had a red underlay on his shoulder boards.

Although these are not in the condition I normally collect, I could not pass up an opportunity to purchase this rare pair that are still sewn together. Damn beetle!

Dear Leigh,
I believe there were 2 different red colors, one for Courts martial officials and one for other judical services. I dont have my books at work so hopefully Paul can elaborate on this.

HG Tab
in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment

Hi Paul,
Overall I think the tab looks ok. The only thing I do not like about it is the badge cloth material. I have not seen material like this used on a tab before but that in itself should not be a discriminator. I do like the embroidery and the oxydation that is on the gulls. The gulls appear to be matching and I don't think one was added later. Wreath looks fine also. Buckram material is similar to pieces I have in my collection.
I only have 3 pairs of officer HG tabs in my collection (Oberst, Leutnant and a Musikmeister) and all 3 are different, in terms of construction, than what most of my other tabs are like. I hesitated buying any of them since they were out of the norm in some aspect compared to my other tabs. 2 of them came from George Peterson's collection which was one of the factors which influenced me to the "buy side".
So I guess what I am saying is that based on my experience with the HG tabs many of them seem to fall outside of what we normally see on normal tabs such as Flight, Flak etc.
