    1. Hello all

I have chosen to bring this link here in the Fortifications Topic, because i think it can lead to a quite interesting topic for discussion.

      http://www.cegesoma.be/phocat/phocatFA.htm

Go to M = Mur D?Atlantique - and see approx. 400 very interesting peridodic pictures from The Atlantic Wall.

Also try the rest of the "alphabet" - also many fine pictures there too !!

If any can lead to a discussion, please bring your postings here under this topic, so that we have the same "source" to refer to !!

    2. Hello all

      The short story of:

      Gefechtstand Silkeborg Bad

The German military headquarter at Silkeborg Bad

I call this the ?short story? ? because there is a full story written in the book ?Gefechtstand Silkeborg Bad? written by a close friend of mine ? Mr. Dan Mouritzsen ? the Curator of ?Bunkermuseum Silkeborg Bad?.

The full story in that book contains 288 pages packed with information, drawings and pictures, so this can only be a small tribute to his book.

The town Silkeborg was occupied on the 9th. of April 1940 along with the rest of Denmark. The German troops were in the town in the late afternoon, and by 20.00 hours the first larger unit to stay in the town was in place ? the rest moved on to Randers and Viborg.

At the 10th of April - the first units of the 170. Infanterie Division arrived, and officers were station-ned at Hotel Dania. That was the beginning of the occupation for the area of Silkeborg.

Concerning the German Headquarter, it was first established in Copenhagen for the staff of General Erich L?dke ? but in June 1942 the planning began for moving the headquarter to Silkeborg.

The 31st. of October 1942 the institution Silkeborg Bad (a Health facility) closed for its last time, and the German Army took over the management of the area.

The planning continued, and at 3rd. of March 1943 the building preparations began ? O.T (Organisation Todt) had 500 to 600 men working there, transforming the place into a closed military area of barbed wire, trenches and bunkers.

By November 1943 at 18.00 hours the whole headquarter was in place and moved from Copenhagen to Silkeborg, and along with that came the new General Hermann von Hanneken and his staff to replace General Erich L?dke. At the same time the place got its new name ?

      ?Hauptquartier Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber D?nemark? (WBD.)

      Fig. 1 See attached map.

The area was filled with bunkers and buildings (see Fig. 1 ? Map):

      Bunker type V196 ? 1 pcs.

      Bunker type R58c ? 8 pcs.

Bunker no type ? 6 pcs.

Most of the bunkers are still visible and accessible, but most barracks are gone. All other buildings in the area are the same and as such used by the Germans.

At the time - 1943 to 1945 - the area were manned with different strength ? but at the top there were about 600 officers and soldiers stationed at the headquarter.

    3. Hello all

Thanks for your kind words. And..yes, we are quite proud ourselves. All the items in the bunker are from the Silkeborg area where it originally belonged, and put in the right positions in the bunker again.

It is a R622 bunker and we are soon running out of room and place, so we have stored a lot of items in a building nearby. We hope to re-open a couple of other bunkers next year, and among them the Commandbunker V196 "Nachrichtenstand f?r H?here St?be".

Today we only use the R622 bunker and a building called "Hexenhaus" - it is called that because it was there the telephonegirls used to live ( Blitzm?dels ). The bunker is heated and with electricity, and all items are in working order - and we hope to get some of the other bunkers in that order too.

But - i will, as i told earlier - come back with some details of the history of the "Hauptquartier Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber D?nemark" - till then -

    4. Hello all

A little "picturestory" from a place in Denmark.

Bunkermuseum Silkeborg Bad - located in a R622 bunker in the former Headquarter of "Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber D?nemark" - General Herman von Hanneken and later Generaloberst Lindemann.

I am a member of the group around the Bunkermuseum, and in the bunker we have a lot of relics from the period.

    8. Hello Gordon

Very..Very nice and excellent photos of the Submarine Pens and also Flakbunkers !!

Happy to say that it also is within my area or interest, and i hope to see more of this in this topic.

I have been able to travel within the Atlanticwall since 1990, and have seen the bunkers at Bordeaux, St. Nazaire, La Pallice, but still have to travel to Brest, Lorient ( hopefully next summer ) !!

I have recently started a research into the S?dwall ( The Mediteranean coast ) and will have to go there soon. So Toulon, Marseilles and the U-Boot Bunkers there is coming up.

About Flakbunkers i have a lot of info on Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna - they are vere impressive structures and they are also very "photogenic" i think !!

What about V1 - V2 and the V3 sites in France, anyone have interest in those as well ??

    9. Hello Joe
