    1. hello,

I am not sure if this is the proper forum to ask this so if not please excuse me.

I just received this Braunschweig Ausweis w/ K.u.K Tapferkeitsmedaille legitimation and bronze medal and I would like to know please if anyone could help me with a few questions.

First I would like to know the translation of the text of the ausweis, this kind of document was issued instead a formal award document or just to authorize the use of the award? it is posible to identified the signature??

Any information about the unit would be very apreciated, if this were in any front with the Austro Hungarian army? was normal to attached the small piece of paper with the Tapferkeitsmedaille legitimation ??

      Thanks in advance!

    3. hello all,

you have a really nice Hungarian awards!!!!

this is the only Hungarian medal in my collection ( not in a good shape) of which I did not know the name until I saw this thread.

    4. Generally speaking, only rescues which were at the risk of the life saver's own life. Each of the Imperial German states had their own awards.

For Prussia, from the medal on ribbon's creation in 1833 to 1919 (WW1 years' numbers may not be complete) = 9,055

according to the late Eric Ludvigsen's annual statistical studies.

Thank you Rick! I am wondering if the award criteria was the same for all the German states? and if was awarded for any rescue which were at the risk of the life saver's own life but not related just with be drowned?

      thanks!

    5. Hi,

I went over and found the article entitled ?The Ehrenbechers - Where Are They Now?? by Bill Radfloff and Robert Niemann, which appeared in Cross & Cockade Journal, Vol 10, No 4, winter 1969, page 366, where the authors mention that:

????..it seems that in 1915 Emperor Wilhelm II set aside some of his own personal funds in order that an award might be made for the-then rare first air victory. He commissioned Godet (a Berlin firm of goldsmiths) to provide a suitable award.?

      hello all,

this was the award criteria? the first air victory?? any idea of how many were awarded?

      thanks!

    6. Hello,

it is not a statistic, and obviously incomplete, but this book can be of invaluable help:

"Ehrenbuch der Oesterreichisch Ungarischen Wehrmacht - die Ausgezeichneten im Weltkrieg"; Vienna, k.u.k. Kriegsarchiv / Verlag Vaterl?ndisches Archiv, 1917

In this book, besides the statutes of all the awarded orders and decorations (and fine colour plates) there is an alphabetical list of officers with details of their awards.

A good thing is that the "Ehrenbuch" is not rare and it usually appears at collectors shows and/or auctions.

      Best wishes,

      Enzo

      Thanks for the info Enzo!

do you have an idea of how much would cost me one now?

    7. dont worry Komtur, this give an idea of what the document say.

your photos are amazing! it is not supposed that the Kaiser's Honor Decoration should have worn below other high ranking decorations? I ask this because in the last photos posted here, the Honor decoration was worn where it fit better.

    8. Hello Humberto,

I can?t tell you the number of awarded decorations, that?s a point I am interested too! But I can show a scan of an awarding document:

Thank you very much Komtur!!! it is a nice document, unfortunately I can't read anything of the text.

I hope someone can tell us about the number of awarded decorations.

    9. ok then! I will work on it. just want to know if you prefer that I post all the regulations when they be finish or you prefer that I post it page by page so you dont have to wait until all are translated ??

    10. Ahem Humberto? Perhaps we could bribe you with German baubles? Promises of fame and glory/

      hello Guys!

seriously you want all this regulations translated???? if so just let me know and give me some time and you will have them, it is always a pleasure to help you.
