Strange that they have always been ahead of the game with kit. It is well designed and comfortable and I don't doubt efective too. While we moved away from tin to those horible green efforts. I am glad the lads and lasses finaly have something comparable with this in the Mark 7. This was with the uniform but it will be sold on as work clothing etc, as my pal said not many people wear these to work! Have you really shifted all of your WW1 & " stuff that you had on WRF? That didn't take long if you have.

All my Imperial stuff went last year, very quickly and for good money, it was re invested in early BW tunics, equipment and the 1957 awards, giving me access to high end stuff......it was time after some decades to switch collecting interests.

Nice model 826 Gefechtshelm Jock ! In service with the BW since the early 90's........the cover will be specific for a model of helmet, marked for either Gefechtshelm "G" or Stahlhelm "S" with size number on the white side of the cover......pity I have no TR pieces to swop !!

By the way, the civilian 1980's thro to present day BMW system motorcycle helmet also had "press" in English on the fastener !

I like it ! An interesting cross to be sure...........is it one piece or three piece construction, die stamped or cast ? how do you know it is Silver ? According to the specification/regulations laid down in the 1957 law, as long as the cross is made to spec it can be made by anyone, any where, even Abdullah in his yard shed !

However that said, in the collecting 57er world this cross would be a novelty/curio......as most collect and recognise established German makers such as St u L, Deumer, Assmann etc.........That said, I am in no way deriding this cross, fascinating find ! it would be a conversation piece in any 57er collection !

The Officer is wearing a "Gesellschaftsanzug mit Fangschnur" this jacket was also called the "Zweitschenrock" (Two pocket tunic) This type of jacket was authorised for use in 1963, as there was a demand for a more ceremonial kind of uniform for official use.......it was replaced by the black dinner jacket dress in 1973.

His 57ers virtually match my display !

Thanks Mervyn for your reply and I understand exactly what you are saying, a ball park figure for me to work with would be fine £100,£200 or whatever.......I would wish them to go to a collector and not a dealer....but the downside is they have to go.............

Gentlemen, here I show a grouping to a Metropolitan Police station Sergeant who served sometime between the late 1930's to the late 1960's....in this time he helped save a horse from drowning in the Thames (6th January 1950) and received The RSPCA medal with for humanity bar and PDSA medal, there is also his long service medal, 1939-45 Defence medal and a St Johns First Aid medal, all except Defence medal are named to the Sgt and are boxed/cased ..................I know it is not the done thing to give valuations on open forum, but having had these for some years displayed next to my own long service medal it is time for a Police medal collector to enjoy owning this set as my collection interests are very different and there is a high value piece coming up I wish to buy.....so I wish to know a ball park figure this set may be worth....please pm if not comfortable in giving an open value.

Thanks for your reply Jock ! i got results from both enquiries at WAF and WRF, It would appear to be a wartime made Deumer EK II and the other medal the Schaumburg-Lippe kreuz, is a St u L post war made piece, most probably from the 57er period, the veteran has had a mixture assembled into his medal bar !

Gentlemen,my first post here,...this veterans post WW2 replacement two piece medal bar, featuring an Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse and Schaumburg-Lippe Kreuz für treue Dienste, probably made some time between the early 1950's to the mid 1960's.....it is unusual in that it retains its Schinkel form EK as most examples of the post war period Imperial EK's are based on the larger WW2 cross, I have a first class example in this form.

St u L, and it is believed others did a range of Imperial awards for veterans during the 1950's-60's.

This displays nicely alongside my other St u L post war Imperial awards, my PLM & EK I.

Comments please.........................

It has been suggested that the EK II on this bar is WW2 made Deumer and not a post war EK....can you or some one here comment on this revelation ? I know little about Third Reich Iron Crosses.

Gentlemen, a post war (WW2) 1950-60's produced Pour le Merite.

A Steinhauer und Luck made piece and with their specific design features, the connected "U R", the "l" in the le Merite' not conected to the frame, the flat footless bottoms of the eagles, and the distinctive enamelled pillow look to the rear, its baroque style loop mount, but most importantly the flaw on the bottom 7 o'clock eagles wing that all St u L PLM's must have.......It measures 53mm x 53mm and weighs in at 26 gramms...it is complete with a short length of original period ribbon (1950's) and is og bronze gilt manufacture (although a a silver marked 800 was also available).

I collect post war awards/medals especially the 1957 regulation pieces, in such collecting spheres this replacement PLM is a highly sought after and prized addition, I was wondering what you Imperial chaps think ?

Gordon, thanks for additional thoughts on these badges...............as to been sewn on a uniform, I take it the moleskin field blouse was the item of uniform these badges would have applied to..................either the arms or chest positions ? Does any one have any period photographs showing these badges in wear ?

Can some body explain, what they actually are, what uniform items the would be worn upon, are they official ? who wore them ? I can find very little or no photographs of BW personnel wearing these types of badges............I do not mean the standard "Verbandsabzeichen der BW".

This lightweight helm is made in one size, and is of strips of fabric embedded in resin all formed in a mould at high pressure............

John, the helmets worn by the band will be the lightweight version of the model 826 Gefechtshelm, as worn by ceremonial units of the Wachtbataillon.....the "SH 99" helmet, available in gloss finish for parades etc and matt finish for more sombre occasions such as funerals.

Paul, last medal is Norwegian, participation medal of the "IML Saga March".....except for the first one (2002 flood medal) all the others are march/walking medals, the second medal, the Nijmegen march medal being the most well known....................and is often seen on BW ribbon bars.

Gents, just obtained this medal bar which has the following medals :- Einsatzmedaille "Fluthilfe 2002" des Bundes, Viertagekreuz von Nijmegen (Hollandmarsch), Silberne Medaille des IML Haervejesmarsches von Viborg/Dänemark, Medaille des IML Saga-Marsches (Norwegen).

My question is.....was this worn by a member of the Bundeswehr/Fire/police or is it a civilian bar ?

Gentlemen, looking for more information on the above RK holder, I have this information at hand, Eberhard Pohl, born November 23rd 1908,Sagen/Silesia. 134th Inf Regt, 44th Inf Div, rank, Major. DKiG won April 2nd 1942, won his RK at Stalingrad December 17th 1942 taking hill 124.5, surrendered February 1943 and marched into Soviet captivity for 11 years, joined the Bundeswehr upon return to Germany, passed away in April 16th 1997 Ottobrunn/Bavaria. If any one can provide more information, especially on Bundeswehr service and photographs.....

Chris, two nice original Bundeswehr visor caps, the first one is Army Staff Officers cap for the rank of Major to Colonel, indicated by the embroidered oak leaves on the cloth peak, it is an early one from between 1962-1970, indicated by the ribbed band which has typically faded. The second is indeed a Luftwaffe Officers junior rank visor cap, again indicated by the embroidered scallops on the cloth peak, worn by Leutnant to Hauptmann ranks, this hat is hard to date, unless it is marked on the inside.
