Hi - Kevin. A very worthwhile exercise and most interesting to see the variations in prices. I think the number of collectors is fairly limited and some are prepared to pay much more than others. I must admit that I 'hate' ebay with a passion - the shop has it's own registration - cathay@africa1 - but I stopped putting on some years ago. Perhaps I need to re-think that attitude having seen your comparisons ? I have cupboards full of old police equipment - although the truncheons and tipstaffs are now reserved and most of the lapel badges have gone. Do you keep a record of any other police equipment that comes-up ? Mervyn

Nice to hear from you. No, I only collate data relating to SCs with the exception of Bradford City Police which is my other main area of interest.

I will keep posting when I get the chance. I'm sure that you are right about the limited number of SC collectors and the effect that it has on prices.

Although on rare occasions I am sure that lunacy overtakes people! Another manifestation is what I call the 'sunday effect'. On that day items generally attract prices considerably higher than on other days.

Bradford City Police was, of course, wiped off the face of the earth during 1974 and I was wonding if this was part of a set given to individual officers to 'celebrate' the demise of their force or on a separate occasion i.e. retirement, leaving etc..?

I think that I threatened sometime ago to expose members to another area of interest of mine. I have been following all Special Constabulary (and related) items on Ebay for a few years and have kept a record of the outcomes of auctions. I probably have missed a few items but am confident that I have caught the vast majority. For those that are interested, I will post in alphabetical order the results obtained so far. Several things come to mind; the extremes seen in relation to some items which on occasions seems hard to believe; the scarcity of some items illustrated by low numbers coming to auction; the comparitively high prices paid for some scarce items which are in very poor condition. I have excluded general issue SC medals due to the large numbers seen on Ebay.

I've dropped in a few scans which may or may not help the debate. The belt is obviously of a different type but Manchester most likely used more than one. The close up of the HP does show some similarities to the buckle on Brian's photograph.
