Hello,
reading Rick's "1870-71 War Medal Battle Bars By Units" I must start this topic.
At first a bar of an SL in 1870. He was wounded in Gravelotte and so he missed the following campaign...
What was his unit????

Hello,
here's my Stammtisch-Krieger bar...

...and here a typical bar of an Oberstleutnant.
A question about it: What is the important different to other bar's with SaH 3, SaA 3a mK+x, SaV 3a x and the red eagle to find out the wearer????

Hi,
here is an unnamed saxon bar - no chance to find out the wearer...

..and the same to your bar - Anhalt Friedrich cross on white ribbon...

Hi Rick,
that's an interesting thread - here's my bar of FeuerwerksM Menneking. Ek 2 and Lippe Detmold on ribbon for Combatant's and the Brunswick KVK for nonombatants.

Hi Sascha,
I think you are right with the ribbon bars. I know some documents of von Grone, but not the document of the Friedrich August Kreuz. The bavarian cross he got in 1916, the mecklenburg war merit cross in 1917.
Best regards

H Rick,
the sam mysterious sources as you..
He got the life saving medal in 1887 - I know some wearer. In 1898 he was a SL dR in IR 82 with LwBez Braunschweig. In the Hofhandbuch 1916 he was listed with the EK and the BrKVK.
What make your listings - when can I get them????
Regards
Werner

Hi Rick,
don't cry....
May be the wearer of your bar is OL dLwaD Gustav Spies, Regierungsrat at the Oberversicherungsgericht in Braunschweig.
He got the lefe-saving medal as a Primaner, has the Landwehrdienstauszeichnung 2. class and in 1915 the EK 2 1914 and war merit cross of Brunswick - maybe he got some more..

Hi David,
the first list I have is from 1875 - I don't know former lists, only Hof- and Staatshandb?cher.
There are awards pre 1870, but not complete. That's the mistake in your answer of the archives in Darmstadt, that 1898 and 1914 are not complete listings, because the people who died weren't in it.
Best regards
Werner

Hi David,
save your money - there are some more pages than 194 and there Ordenslisten from different years. I just work on it.

Hi Werner
I can only imagine what a vast files you must have on your computer. Did you ever consider publishing? As far as the Anhalt Bear Order is concerned, I do hope that there will be a volunteer who will take the responsibility form the pre 1872 awards. Would they also be in the Staatshandb?cher? As I understand correctly, the Bear Order was established 1834 as a follow-up of a previous bear order. It would be really great to have all the data in one publication! Would anyone know when this bear order originally started?
forgive me for getting all exited about this, I just love pre 1871 orders and would most certainly volunteer myself for doing the rest of the bear order (pre 1872) if a publications should not be hasted..... I would really love to see how my first project (HGL) turns out before I make any commitments to other pre 1871 orders
David
Hi David,
I'm consider publishing and I have had good contacts to Hrn. Roth. But there are a few bad collector who copy his books because they are not willing pay the really small price. I need the lists to identify the wearers of bars - my own one and the bars of other collectors.
In the Staatshandbuch 1872 were also former awards but it can be that some of them are missing.
Look at my numbers of bavarian awards of the MVK - Bernd D will find some more in the original rolls.
About Anhalt pre 1871 orders let us make a new thread....
