    1. Hi Owain, Thanks for your very comprehensive reply to this thread. Most interesting, and I think you are right on the money with your observations on the award of the medal. The scan I have of this medal came from a dealer in the far north of the UK and when I inquired about the medal it had already gone. As the two scans we have put up of this medal look identical I would say you beat me to the post on this one. Well Done. I wonder where that trio is now !!!!! All the Best, Brian. PS. Very nice miniature.
    2. Here is a scan of the group sold by Spink, it is only in black and white, no colour available. ATB, Brian.
    3. I think one for Will to find !!!! As my main interest is in the Anglo-Egyptian Army and Sudan Defence Force, I thought I would post here the information I have on a very hard to find medal, "one of which I do not have". it is the Egyptian Army Bravery Medal, a good scan of the medal can be seen below. As far as I know it was awarded from 1913 but have no idea when it ceased to be awarded. I have seen one on a dealers list in recent times but it was already gone when I enquired. A group containing one of these medals was sold by Spink Medal Supplement of 1988, there is a picture of a most unusual medal combination, vide item 375 that includes an Egyptian Bravery Medal in a group comprising; 1. Sudan (sic) Medal for Bravery 2. Khedives Sudan 1910 Bronze un-named 3. AGS 1902 'East Africa 1918' (Nafar Natum, Equatorial Bn. E.A.) The group had no accompanying research and had evidently been mounted for display by a previous owner, as the Khedives Sudan medal 1910 is mounted with the reverse to the fore, Whether it was a made-up , partial or even full medal enttilement to the recipient I do not know. Any further information on this award would be most welcome !!!! ATB, Brian.
    4. Hi Will, I used to have a fully named WWI Trio to the Egyptian Army, but alas now gone to a new home funnily enough in South Africa !!!, but thought I would post another trio that I have aquired to a: Mulazim Awal, (1st Lieutenant). Medical Corps, Egyptian Army. Awards. Khedives Sudan Medal 1910, 2nd Type, with clasps: DARFUR 1916 – FASHER, un-named as issued. British War Medal, named, Mulazim A. Med Corps. E.A. Victory Medal, named, Mulazim A. Med Corps. E.A. Miniature set of the three above medals. Of the ten MIC's found at the national Archives to El Mulazim Awals of the Medical Corps, Egyptian Army, Three were serving attached to the New Zealand Army Medical Corps and were awarded a, 1914-15 Star Trio. The other seven candidates were all awarded a British War and Victory Medal Pair. It seems that none of the MIC's named to natives of the Egyptian Army indicate weather they were awarded the Khedives Sudan 1910 Medal, as the one's to British Officers of the Egyptian Army. As the Trio here also accompanies the miniature medals mounted on a Spink & Son bar, presumably as worn, could it be possible to further narrow down the recipient by his name. By this I mean if he was from the upper classes of Egyptian society and could afford to travel to the UK and have his miniatures mounted by Spink and Son, could a recipient be picked out from the below list by his name ???. Wadia, Effendi Lebnan. El mulazim Awal. Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Raif, Effendi Yacub Neddeh. El Mulazim Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Philip Effendi Sabet, El mulazim Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Attached N.Z.A.M.C. Taufik Effendi Abdelmelek, El Mulazim Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Suleiman, Effendi Hassan Abaza, El Mulazim Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Khelil Effendi Jabour, El Mul Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Attached N.Z.A.M.C Nicola Effendi Girgis, El Mul Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Gamil Effendi Kiryakus, El Mul Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Murad Yusef Effindi Abu, El Mul Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. Attached N.Z.A.M.C. Joseph Effendi Saba, El Mul Awal, Medical Corps. Egyptian Army. ATB, Brian.
    5. This is the Anglo-Egyptian Police Meritorious Service Medal. The reverse bears the seal of the Governor General. ATB, Brian.
    6. Hi Will, I have uploaded scans of the two police medals that were recently sold at auction DNW. Yes ribbons are a problem, lucky for me all the medals I have came with ribbon, but I believe the LSGC ribbon I have on mine is in fact the Afghan 1878-80 ribbon, but the right one should have the same colour edges as the Native Officers Decoration. I only have a 3 inch length of the Distinguished Service Medal ribbon spare and also a 5 inch length of Native Officers Decoration ribbon spare. Have you found any source in the Sudan that produces ribbon for any modern medals awarded for Sudan forces, thay may be able to help ???. All the best, Brian, The First up is the Anglo-Egyptian Police Distinguished Service Medal.
    7. Hi Will, The medal on the right is indeed the Sudan Defence Force Distinguished Service Decoration, instituted by the Governor General of the Sudan in 1933 and is one of a set of four Military and two Police medals awarded for this period up until independence in 1955. A very good friend was able to get a translation of the inscription around the rim of the medal which i have copied here: As Soudan Lil Khadma al Mumtaza fi Al Maidan Which I reckon is: The Sudan: For Excellent Service in Drill or Parade. The word Maidan generally means a military display or similar but there could be another use for this word I am unaware of. But that's the gist of it. In Oman the DSM reads 'Khadima Mumtaza' (Excellent service). Hope this helps a little. Owain, I am lucky enough to own the full set including the two Police medals and will be framing them in the very near future. All the Best, Brian.
    8. Hi Will, What a great group of medals, what with the photo, name and history, you just can't get better. I have enjoyed very much brousing your collection on the forum, "Outstanding" I am also very interested in the Anglo-Egytpian Army and Sudan Defence Force and have today put up my first post, can be seen through link below http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44873&st=0&p=414368&hl=sudan&fromsearch=1&#entry414368 I look forward to viewing your future posts and finds.
