Michelju is well known for manufacturing fakes as well, like the Greek Bavarian Volunteers' medal and the Cross of Independence. Their quality is better than the originals. Of course, he never says that they are fakes and in every militaria show you can see that he has 1 or 2 for display. I was one of his victims, too, as I bought one of the first pieces that he sold and the collecting community was not aware of this fraud. Since then, many collectors have been deceived. The funny thing is that ebay does not care; even though I sent emails and protested about this issue, nothing was done.

This ribbon bar does not really make sense. Maybe it isn't real. The last one looks too "light" green to be a St Maurice and St Lazarus Order (but I don't know what it could be) and the Phoenix should have been of a higher class and it should have been followed by a Phoenix without swords.

Navy medals, Gold and Silver, 1974

Thank you for the translation!
I just bought them altogether, along with some Greek and other foreign medals, without having a real interest.
To be honest, I am thinking about selling most of them.
The only Iraqi I have Lorenzo is a nice Officer of the Order of the Two Rivers.

Here is a photo of the obverse.
the last two medals were irrelevant, of course!

Hello,
I have this small collection of Middle East and N. Africa medals and decorations. I know what some of them are, but not all. Also, there are some unofficial medals in the group. If any member knows what each medal is (and if possible a short traslation of the reverses), it would be highly appreciated!

Nice collection of medals Artan!
Do you know if the Albanians who fought along with the Italians against the Greeks in 1940-41 received any special medal/medals? As far as I know, there were only some unofficial regimental italian medals given for this purpose, but I don't know if they were awarded to Albanians, too. I also do not know if they were ever worn in uniform. Any info/photos would be highly appreciated!

Hello,
It is a Greek Urban police badge, indeed. Period 1973-1974 ( last year of the 7-year Junta, when the emblem of Phoenix subtituted the crown).
Most likely a collar badge (on a blue velvet background).

Hello Demir,
I am wondering; was the name of the recipient actually written in the reverse area, based on the examples that you have seen so far?
Regards,
Dimitris

Both Orders are of exceptional beauty and historical value!
It is very important to have members who like to share their knowledge and findings with the others.
Rare Orders like these are always nice to see, so that we other collctors will get to know some useful information.
I must express my deep admiration for the www. turkishmedals.net site, one of the best of its kind. Well done!

Really nice! Excellent collection! Thanks for sharing!
I hope that there will be a time in the near future in this site, that photos will have better detail.

Hello Makedon,
I have checked the decoration, including the suspension ring, and can find no makers marks or what could be interpreted as a makers mark. Is there any location in particular that such marks would be?
Regards,
Rob
Suspension (reverse V) and suspension ring usually!

To all,
Here is another Order of the Redeemer piece in my collection. It has a number of differences from that previously posted insofar as the surrounding wreath is much thicker, and the portrait on the obverse is different.
I would appreciate any ideas as to the manufacturer.
Regards,
Rob
Unknown to me, but probably another Lemaitre version, especially if you see no maker's marks.

Any of the two would be fine!

Hello friends and collectors.
I would like to share with you this Grand Cross that I recently purchased, as the size of the Badge makes it a rare finding!
Coming from Greece.
I would place it at about 1870-1890.

Hello Kev,
You are indeed correct on the addition of the TRADITIA bar to the full-size 1877-78 Crossing of the Danube Cross. Tim B posted pics of this group, both full size and mini, on the victory medal thread. Here it is again for reference.
Regards,
Rob
Beautiful!
The feeling is great when you find the matching miniatures and documents to a group.
Nice finding!

The engraving gives it away definitely a wrong un.
Paul
Thank you Paul!
Nevertheless, I have seen originals with a later engraving. Would anybody else like to share an opinion about this cross?
is it a known example of copy?
thank you!

Hello,
If I am not wrong, the small size Milos Obilic were awarded for the Balkan Wars, as opposed to the larger ones.
The Pavel Car book on Serbian medals and Orders is a "must" for medal collectors. It costs about 100 euros and it's one of the best medals' books ever written.

A side photo of the same 3rd class cross.
Please advise!!

Hello,
I found this St George Cross, which looks like a copy to me.
It has hand-engraved numbers and two marks on the suspension ring.
It is thin, as you can see in the photos.
As I am not an expert, I would like an opinion about this cross.
Thank you!

Hallo Gentlemen,
this Greek Cross is being offered for sale, but I need some learned opinions.
All I know about the item in question is what I read in the book on Greek medals by George Stratoudakis,
"Since the spring of 1835 the Bavarian Volunteer Army Corps started gradually to replace the regular Bavarian troops, who were in Greece since 1833.
For the men of this Corps it was decided by Royal Decree in 1837 to strike a Medal as a Commemorative and Honourable distinction.
The medal was struck in Bronze, and in Iron."

Hello Kev,
Better late than never I guess!...
This particular example is a well-made copy of a Bavarian jeweller who keeps on selling them in ebay and fairs throughout Europe.
It is almost identical to the original one. The info you have is right, apart from the fact that it was only made in bronze, not iron. At least I have never seen one and I doubt that they exist in iron. About 3500 of them were made. A very nice example has been posted to a different post of GMIC, as part of a Bavarian medal bar.

Hello gents,
Can anyone help me with what awards were made to the different Red Cross ambulances during the Balkan Wars?
I have the awards to two of the four Dutch ambulances and I want to make a comparison.
The Dutch ambulances got:
Greece:
Order of the Redeemer
- Commander (1)
- Officer (3)
- Knight (2)
Medal of the Greco-Turkish War 1912-1913 with ribbon for nursing staff (entire personnel)
Medal of the Hellenic Red Cross (female nursing personnel only)
Turkey
Order of Medjidjie:
- Grand Officer (1)
- Commander (2)
- Knight (4)
Order of Sjerakat
- Grand Officer (2)
Medal of Liakat in silver (10)
Unfortunately I don't have any information concerning the Serbian and Bulgarian awards to the Dutch ambulances. I also don't know how much silver and bronze medals of the Turkish Red Crescent Society have been awarded.
If anyone can help with more info, it would be appreciated.
Do you have any photos of the Greek awards to the Dutch ambulances?
