    1. Naxos,

That is indeed the same garment! Unfortunately, it's missing the shoulderboards and mine has a few month nips. I assume the Officer's grade Uberrock is more sought after? Sorry for misposting this as an Uhlan Tunic guys! It is my first venture into buying Imperial cloth.

      Regards,

      Joel

      Hi Joel!

Dragoons is awesome in itself. Thank you for posting this! I am just now researching the uniforms of the dragoons -- awesome post thank you! :)

    2. Sometimes.... just for a fleeting moment... I wish I still collected this stuff..... :-)...... :-(

Nah Chris you made the good switch I think. If you still did the III Reich, you would just have headache after headache. The dealer gods -- save from one in Mass -- have all gotten too big for their britches.

Besides -- what you had was amazing. You cant do better than those tunics. If fact, I know one is still a prize in a dealers collection.

That 12th SS named tunic is beyond words. Talk about one of a kind!

I still think your Imperial stuff is cooler.

    3. Officer's ulanka, tschapka and schirmmutze for Ulanen-Regt. Hennigs von Treffenfeld Nr. 16. The two piping colors (light blue and white) are unique to UR12 and UR16 vs. the single piping color on the remainder of the uhlan regiments.

Dave could we get a close up shot of the Tschapka's motorboard? I have on in metal, and one in leather (dunno why I said wood--was I thinking Austrian pre 1870?) Really interested in the differences between the manufacturing styles.

WOW!! That is absolutely gorgeous!!! Now judgeing from the medals, was this an observer in a Flying Corps Squadron?

Dave now the Tschapka, what kind of date would you put that in? Does it have the wooden motor-board rather than a metal one?

    5. Here's a M-1910 waffenrock for an oberleutnant of 4. Chevaulegers-Rgt.

      Post 1915 double piping

      chevclupdk8.jpg

Dave that is OUTSTANDING!! I never expected a Field Gray tunic, absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing it. Now at that point, what were the Chevauleger units used for? Straight infantry or possibly more of a light scout role? Had they completely dropped the horses by 1915?

    6. Paul that is an awesome set! Was it all named to the original owner? I cant tell from my screen, but is that the dark red piping or the peach?

Chip, I was wondering how rare the Chevauleger items were. I have seen Bavarian helms to Cav units, but these I think can be either Chevauleger or Riter units unless otherwise marked.

Aside from Helms, I agree, I have only seen one tunic for sale (white piped) and that was after Tony from Kaiser's Bunker got it. It is interesting you don't see more, due to the fact you seem to see a lot of uniforms, 100% good, from more rare units (like the Brunswick Hussars), I have seen three black Hussar tunics for sale this year, and no Chevauleger tunics. I was hoping I just was not looking hard enough :)

    7. I'm looking at my 32nd stuff to see what units might have been between the lines of American units involved in the fighting. Here however is a good start:

Keep checking google books, sometimes you can download the division/regimental histories for free

    8. Thanks for the replies, I didn't know that the area was held by Austro-Hungarian units. I'll look forward to hearing what you find in your references.

Unfortunately, I think I goofed in the way I expressed myself in my original post. Although I'd love to know exactly where my grandfather was held, I realize that's next to impossible. My main focus is to hopefully find out what unit captured him and maybe the area he was held. If, by some miracle, I can pin down more, that would be icing on the cake! But I'm just looking for enough to fill in the blanks of his service history. He rarely spoke about his service, just little bits. None of his children or grandchildren ever had any idea of the battles he was a part of but I think it's important to find out what he (& all other soldiers) went through. That's why I hope to get as much as possible.

Sorry that I didn't express it correctly in my post and I do appreciate all suggestions and replies. This is a terrific forum that has already taught me a lot by reading all the information posted my the members. Thanks again,

      Cherie

Going to check on this--Check on Google for regimental histories of the American Regiments during the way. I have seveal from the 32nd which all detail enemy units engaged.
