Hi guys!! I will post the whole collection in a little while and some better photos of the badge. You guys are mirroring my sentiments. I think something is off with this group, and not just because of this badge,

Back and makers mark. The mark is, as far as I can read :
"Werner & Soehne" -- now this is either a maker I have not heard of (which is possible) or someone misspelled SOHNE. I have my opinion

Hi all. I wonder if I could get some help with this badge. It came in a grouping in a local museum. The grouping is supposedly to a pilot who was shot down near American lines during the Argonne. The group contains many items, including this badge. The group has been together since the late sixties--(so the story goes)
I have my own thoughts about this badge, but I wanted several other opinions before I let the owner know my thoughts. Photos to follow:

Another option is to check the publication histories of Cross and Cockade/Over the Front/ and Windsock. There are many articles done in the past 50 years on German pilots. Ask also at the AERODROME forum. They might have information on a certain individual or series of articles

Edmund Haake Documents and medals grouping.
Different German Awards.

WOW! That is about as rare as it gets. A Marinepfarrer named grouping. Really a nice find there

The problem is... a market price is not set by what 2 guys with a bit of extra cash in their pockets are prepared to pay on day X.
I have seen a few guys fall on their faces when they see something sell on ebay for silly money... who then think "i have one of those!" and toss theirs onto ebay... and get a 3rd of the price...
Think "Housing bubbel"
I have to agree on this. I think that is why some of the "dealer gods" are switching, or at least getting into auction formats. Auctions bring out the spirit of competition just like any sporting event would. You can make a lot of money if two people are intent on getting the same item. I've seen this for other pieces as well. It would appear that medals are particularly vunerable to this as certain makers are more desirible/rare than others

OOOO!!!
So many good WWI books are out/coming out. It is hard to keep up. How is this one??

Cant wait for this book. Even though I dont collect IC/PLM, Stephen's books are still some of my favorite reference materials. Looking forward to this

Yeah I was assuming that What kind of shots do you need? This, unfortunately, was the only shot I was given, I will take more when I can actually see it

Hi all!
I was shown this phot of a badge by a friend for an opinion. I have no idea about these types of things. I have owned one Prussian pilot badge, and that was a while ago. From what it is described, the back is hollow, and maker marked ("something" and son). These badges really stump me on my best days. Any ideas if it is original or not?

I agree. More Information is needed. Price varies widely depending on when the medals were awarded. Would love to see them

Dumb question, but when a individual won the IC, how did they get something of this quality? Were some awards Godet and some other companies? Or was worksmanship of this quality strictly a private purchase piece...while the awarded cross would be cheaper?

I think this is got to be one of the best Imperial tunics I have seen. You see tons of Field Grey tunics with no story, possibly a name. But this one was there!!! When you see stuff like this, it makes me realize why I love this hobby. The history behind a tunic like this is worth ten un named field grey hussar/uhlan/jager tunics. Thanks for preserveing it Chris! Love the article too

I wish. :(

very nice!!! Those Colt's are amazing!

Unless you really, really, really need one to that unit, I would pass.
A wise collector once posted.... if it is a Blue tunic, and not mint, mint... it is not worth buying.
It is a lesson I learned the hard way.... but I learned it.
You can find pleanty in better condition, and not costing much more.
Best
Chris
I gotta agree with Chris on this. If it was Fieldgrau, there is no problem with holes. The blue ones are really tough to sell if they are not minty. Try Sergio Semino's site. He has a good range. His photos are tough though, look close for blemishes on the tunics.

Omg that new blues uniform is sooooo frigging ugly. I loved my "dress" blues in the Army. What they have done to them is horrible. Blech..... do that many people in higher hq need promotions that we change the uniform every two years??

Erwin Rommel's Soldbuch - Auctioned Off
in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Posted
I would be scared to touch a RK document after the whole Petersen delema. Someone out there is makeing great copies (not saying this one is, just that the fakes are really good)
I am surprised the Romel documents didnt sell. Perhaps there was an after auction offer for it.
