    1. Also a possibility is that this medal bar was assembled recently with new ribbons (or ribbons that would not pass a UV light test) and it's a fake, maybe coming from Austria, as they are known to be very efficient with the productions of such bars... Is there a picture of the back?

      C

I don't see any sign of a fake. The ribbon #4 is not modern, UV - negative. Sewing looks original, one thread around the perimeter.

    2. Hello Sergio:

A very interesting medal group. In my opinion, the ribbon is NOT Bavarian. It is the same as the ribbon for Hessen-Darmstadt Arts and Sciences merit medals and for Hessen-Darmstadt Fire Brigade medals. It may be impossible to ever know exactly what was there originally. Perhaps our resident Hessian expert Rudi will have some ideas?

      Best regards,

      Hello,

many thanks for your reply. Here's the full ribbon

    3. Sergio and saschaw,

I had to dig through some records, but I did find out that I bought this medal bar from "hagekna41" a few years ago. Thank you for pointing out it is a fake.

      Dean

This faker uses one and the same version of well recognizable modern dark blue ribbon for Ludwig's cross. The ribbon for the peace-time BMVK is not the original too. Just look at the edges of the ribbons.

For full confidence please post here HQ-images (the front and the back) of your medal bar.

    4. Thank you Uwe,

I've already think about the version of Bulgarian award for "Civil merits", but the ribbons are strongly differ. The colouring is similar, but proportions are absolutely different

    5. I will say one thing, if the bar is a post-war "fake," the guy sure went to a lot of trouble to make one rough-looking medal bar!

Stories, unfortunately, are often just that. For example a number of familiy military items came down to me - WWI and WWII - from both sides of my familly. Some of the medals were attributed to my maternal grandfather when all the time they belonged to my dad's father! It just took a little resarch to straighten things out - and a Militaer Pass and Soldbuch.

In my opinion, you don't understand the problem you try to argue

    6. I found this medal bar during a search for a Hessen Long Service Medal on a parade bar. Boy, where do I begin? Do I start with the German swords on the Austrian medal / ribbon? How about the NCO long service award on the same medal bar with a medal - Tapferkeitskreuz - awarded only to officers? By the way, the jump-ring on the bravery medal is much too small.

The Spange zum 125 jährigen Regimentsjubiläum was awarded to 200 "older" officers and only 9 NCO's.

Draw your own conclusions my friends, but I hope that not too much money changed hands with this transaction!
