      Hi Ed,

Regarding your two shoulder patches, the Auxiliary patch dates between 1963 to 1978, however by the looks of it, I think it is from the later 1960s. The smaller RCMP bilingual patch is the 1974 pattern.

As for the Sam Brown you just bought - I have never seen RCMP stamped on any, but rather MP. The Sam Brown however does look perfectly legitimate, and the stamping could have been done by anyone after it was issued.

    2. Mervyn,

The parka is only open because of the way I hung it for the photo - that being said, it is only closed by the buttons on the ends of the leather straps. This one dates to the 1930s - 1940s.

As for James Walsh, there is a great deal of information on him on the internet and numerous books. There are many of his uniform items in museums in Saskatchewan, including his famous 1872 black US Army campaign hat. I will see if I can locate a website that has a comprehensive history about him.

    3. First of all, thank you very much to Paul for taking the time and effort to re-size my photos and upload them - unfortunately my software is a bit outdated, and I wasn't successful.

To answer Mervyn, I am a current member of the RCMP. My primary interest is the NWMP and anything NWMP that is directly related to my home Province, Saskatchewan. I was previously posted in Battleford, and lived one block away from Fort Battleford. I picked up many treasures in Battleford, most tracing back to the Fort, including a number of first issue NWMP buttons, a cap badge and a number of other items.

I am hoping the person who has the NWMP tipstaff will post a photo?!

    4. Hello, my Name is Greg and I am a Mounted Police Collector for about nine years now. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts, and felt wanted to say that I am impressed by Paul's recent aquisitions. I see that he asked about the NWMP badge as to it's authenticity, and I can tell you for certain that it is a re-strike. The Original badges were die struck, not cast.

As for the many comments about research, the RCMP Museum (The RCMP Heritage Center) in Regina, Saskatchewan is an excellent resource, and can be found online. Also, Dr. Boulton's book Uniforms of the Canadian Mounted Police is the best resource there is for identification of uniform items. Don Klancher's book Insignia of the Canadian Mounted Police is also a very good resource, as well as his other books.

I am glad I found this post, and will post some photos soon of my treasures.

I would also be interested in hearing from anyone looking for items to trade.

      Greg
