    1. I hope this helps other collectors.. I recently purchased two Spanish Morocco Campaign 'medals' from and ebay seller using the name bulphalera. I did take a chance really which I now regret.

One has a bronzed appearance with the clasp Melilla, the second silvered with crossed red stripes upon the ribbon.

Both of the so-called medals are cast forgeries with file marks on the rim, soapy appearance & blow holes and edge flaws. Both are coated over what I would term 'pot metal'. There are

a couple of scratches on the bronze coloured piece showing the  bright soft metal beneath.  The green ribbon is nicely watered with good colour

I am in the process of trying to get a refund through ebay.

The seller is adamant of course that the items are '100% genuine' Also, the seller has re-listed the Melilla medal - which is identical to mine, I mean identical..

Hope others will spread the information to stop others falling into the trap.

    2. Hello Sirs

I know its not Cuba  but I hope someone can help! I recently acquired this medal. I would be most grateful if anyone could supply detailed information on this piece. It also came with a gold pin which I beleive is related in some way. A period box was with the items.

    3. This medal is oficially named: METALEN KRUIS (Metal Cross) VOOR VRIJWILLIGERS (for volunteers) 1830-1831, nicknamed HASSELT CROSS; instituted per Royal Decree of 12 Sept. 1831.

It was awarded to Dutch Army participants in the 10 Day's Campaign against the Belgian rebels in the Belgian War of independance in 1831. It was struck from the bronze of captured Belgian field guns at Hasselt.

There are two versions, for regular and for volunteer troops. The ribbon for the regular forces was striped: blue-orange-blue-orange-blue-orange, the ribbon for volunteers was striped: yellow-green-yellow-green-yellow-green. The medals are not scarce, but the (Original silk) ribbon for the volunteers medal is very hard to find.

      Hello

Many thanks for this information, most helpful indeed. Is it possible to obtain a new ribbon for the medal as opposed to an original?

    4. Hello Friends

I would appreciate any information on this Dutch medal dated 1830-31. Also, is it possible to obtain a replacement ribbon for this piece? Thanking you all in advance.
