Equally I seem to remember a photo of regimental markings, poss QDG, in the same place as on this sword.

Yep, the fact that there are four examples seems to indicate some sort of official hand at work. I very much doubt the whole story will ever come to light.
Does anyone know where/how the 1908 swords were routinely marked?

I've just come across a mystery sword. Now this is something that you would normally discard with a sigh as a lovely British Pat 1908 Cavalry sword that has been butchered for some unknown reason. The blade (and scabbard) has been reduced by about 20cms, the hilt bowl cut down drastically and the heavy counterweight pommel replaced by a simple nut and bolt.
BUT ... I know of 3 other identical examples, one of which is in a Jordanian military museum. And if you look carefully at the hilt markings you'll see the letters TJFF (Transjordan Frontier Force) and a series of numbers which appear to me to have been applied after the butchery.
So what's going on! Stage prop, dismounted use, police ....? All ideas welcome.0 -
Hi Guys
I have a friend who is looking at his father's war service. He served in F Sqn/2 Wing the Glider Pilot Regiment. He qualified as a 2nd pilot in May 1944 and a 1st Pilot in July 1945. He was never more than L/Cpl and his trade is shown as "Clerk" He was 5886646 L/Cpl George Edwards. Son says he has 39/45 Star and F&G Star etc.
This does not seem logical to me???
Any Suggestions?

Hi Guys
I am seeking any military maps of either Oman or Aden, in particular 1:100 000, 1:50 000 or 1:25 000. All periods, new/used/battered!

Good Morning all
I collect military maps of the Middle East. I have a growing collection but would like to grow it some more.
I have complete 1:50,000 coverage of Lebanon, some 1920's OS 1 in to the mile sheets for Jordan, and quite a few 1:100,000 of Oman. Some Aden in various scales etc. Not really interested in aviation maps but I do have some escape maps.
Anyone know of any sources and is there a forum that covers this form of madness?I have no idea at all where those random images came from??? They are not mine and I don't recognise them. Weird.

The best way is to go to this site and send in an application for his service record,
