leigh kitchen Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 Agreed, but I can't think of any other reason for those two little blemishes - possibility that it was worn high & that the UN was worn on a slightly longer ribbon? The "holes" don't seem big enough for staple marks, & these bars are'nt always worn where they're supposed to be on a ribbon - the 1914 Star being a case in point.I don't know, the theory just seems to fit as a reason for the holes, what with the original Congo Bar being the likeliest candidate & all.
Kev in Deva Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Hallo Leigh, PM received will pass on the info to London. In regards the pin holesthe only thing I can think of is that the U.N. Congo Ribbonhas been shortened at some stage to the same size as the Service Medal.Probably by the soldier himself, to frugal to buy new ribbons for both medals I think it can only be possible that the Congo bar was original in those holes, but not originally mounted over the medal bar plate, it would look odd, with the pins rubbing against the plate and cause a bump in the ribbon.Kevin in Deva.
