MGC Sporran

I have a pipers sporran with the Machine gun Corps badge on it. The badge was obviously put on from the start as the plating (or the solid silver) is all in one.ie; the badge is the same colour as the cantle.
Now as the MGC was not authorized pipers, can anyone comment on how many there actualy were? I have found the mans service record and he was authorized the Victory medal and the War medal, Army orders 266&301 of 1919

I also found out that the founder of the MGC was not bothered very much by regulations as he did hijack a band intended for another unit.
