Theodor Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Hi guys, this marking is found on the handle of a German WW1 Mauser bayonet. Can you tell me, which unit is this? /if this means a unit.../VIII.14.2.K.115Thanks!
Guest Rick Research Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 It would be a perfect match to this if there was an X in front of the VIII (for XVIII. Armeekorps) 19142nd Company/115th Hessian Life Guards Infantry Regiment.
Theodor Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) Thank you very much, Rick! The bayonet belongs to a friend. From the picture, maybe it did not have a X, but I asked him to examine it carefully. Again from the picture, the last number looks to me possible 6, but again I asked him to check that in hand, too Edited July 19, 2008 by Theodor
Minen Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Hello,I don't think that it is the Infantry regiment 115.In his book (The Imperial German Regimental Markings), Jeff Noll indicate several same markings on bayonets, and he read :"Armeekorps VIII, Landsturm Infanterie Bataillon 14, company 2".115 is the number of the bayonet.Best regards.Stephan
Theodor Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Thank you very much! Just to confirm, there is no X and the last number is 5, it was confirmed.
