    Guys,I've had this sword for over thirty years now and thought it was high time I found out what exactly it is so any info you can give would be appreciated, age,service,value (if any ) etc,I know its victorian but thats about it,It came with the sword knot by the way,cheers,

    It's a British 1897 pattern infantry officers sword. The sword knot appears to be correct, assuming it's faded gold and red.

    Are there any marks on the blade? That might identify the maker.

    Thanks for the info Vaughn,the only mark on the blade is that which you can see in pic 5,it seems to be stamped letters inside a six pointed star but its too faded to make out what it is.The sword knot is faded red and gold.Would you know how much this sword is worth?

    The circular stamp is the "proof" mark. It contains a star and the word "Proved" (occasionally "proof").

    It shows the sword has passed the neccessary Government tests for military use.

    Not sure on value, possibly ?200-?400; try googling to see what dealers are asking.

    Realistic price is about $150 max, in this condition. It's a levee-type sword, worn for dress occasions, with a thin and weak blade.
