It is for an NCO who was part of Pioneer Batallion 46. He fought in the French campaign of 1940 and was actually captured by the French! The grouping includes a German Red Cross document to his family saying that he has been captured by the French, and that they hoped they could get in contact with him. There is also a document by the German officer in charge of his company in which he outlines the details of his capture. He earned the EK2 for his exploits in the 1940 French campaign. There is a document from the local newspaper congratulating him on his award of the EK2. He went on to earn the EK1, Allgemeine Sturm Abzeichen, Eastern Front Medal and wound badge. There are several other documents from unit commanders concerning this soldiers service. All in all, it is a very interesting, historical grouping to one of the rare German soldiers captured durring the short 1940 campaign in the West.
