    Cataloging the late Eric Ludvigsen's library, I found this scholarly and legalistic tome:

    nicely autographed

    and since his is a name I remember from my Civil War history, no surprise to find him in Brevet Major General Fry's book.

    Born in Flemingsburg, Kentucky January 4, 1822. Died in Washington, D.C. February 25, 1899. USMA Class of 1843, resigned as 1st Lieutenant, 4 years later an instant Colonel-- Brigadier General THREE times and Major Geeneral TWICE before settling into the post-war army as a full Colonel:
