Venusinaglass Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Apologies for another question but I just have so many ! Is it possible to locate the enlistment records of soldier ? If it is how does one go about locating / researching them? Thanks again. Louise
Ralph Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 You can check via the Ancestry website - they have records upto about "P" I believe on- line. The National Archives has all the WW1 Service records that are still in exisitence (provided they were discharged from the Army prior to 1922) on microfilm but NOT on-line. Unfortunately though a large amount of the service records were destroyed due to enemy action in 1940 and a lot of the ones that remained were badly damaged as well.

leigh kitchen Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I've checked Ancestry.co.uk for the service records of Samuel & re "T" Proud with negative result. They may ne there, but I have'nt found them. I don't know if it's of any use, but here's a link to "Ancestrys" free 14 day trial offer: http://landing.ancestry.co.uk/offers/uk/learn/trial.aspx?atlassearch=paid&OVRAW=ancestry.co.uk&OVKEY=ancestry.co.uk&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=9051746531&OVKWID=74830703031&o_xid=35000&o_lid=35000&offerid=0%3a21318%3a0
