Search his name and you will see he has come up several times. :catjava:

Wups. Actually NOT-- just OTHER members of his family....:whistle:

Born 1 October 1884 in Potsdam. Seized by Soviet State Security in the American Zone 4 December 1945 and never seen again. "Legal" death "date" randomly selected as 31 January 1946 for administrative purposes.

Navy 1 April 1902 (first photo taken in 1902) to 30 September 1936 (!!!-- apparently must have run afoul of the viciously vindictive and petty Erich Raeder), Zur Verfügung 15 February 1939 to 30 November 1942.

    Korvettenkapitän zS 01.03.21

    Fregattenkapitän zS 01.03.28

    Kapitän zS 01.01.30

Konteradmiral char. 01.10.33 and Patent 01.04.34

char Vizeadmiral zS aD 30.09.36 and Patent as VA zS zV 01.09.41

He was a torpedo boat commander during the First War. His last 4 years of active duty in the 1930s were as Commandant of the Naval School Mürwik.

He was not particulaly active after recall, actually only serving as Oberwerftdirektor at St. Nazaire 21.01.41-18.10.42.

Typically, the Soviets seem to have confused him for some OTHER member of the von Trotha family who they were hunting, and took him by mistake. :banger:

It is possible that he had some sort of severe medical problems, since rather than the chunky "football player" of these young photos, he was a scrawny underweight old man.
