Guest Rick Research Posted August 31, 2009 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Looks like a photo for Sherlock Holmes (fingerprints! ) but yes, Walter Schulte, born 7 July 1873, Navy 01.10.96-04.03.20 went out as a char. Marine-Generaloberarzt (weird rank titles kept having to be changed as higher ranks were added-- depsite the lofty sound, this was = Fregattenkapitän then, and that is the 1920+ uniform and 1920+ awards he is wearing there) I can't confirm his civilian job afterwards since he never belonged to the Marine Offizier Verband, but will look in the volume of naval doctors and add a scan of his career in (hopefully more detail than the Ehrenrangliste. He was not married as of o1.01.14. What I have for him is Divisionsarzt for the II. Werft Division November 1914 to March 1918, then Senior Doctor at the Wilhelmshaven Werft to war's end. That means his EK2 "combatant" is of the ultra rare "Kriegsverdienst in der Heimat" variety, as is the "combatant" OK2. He would never have been under enemy fire, back home. That means his EK2 "combatant" is of the ultra rare "Kriegsverdienst in der Heimat" variety ...... Harms zum Spreckel's 1919 "Stammliste des Marine-Sanitäts Offizierkorps 1848-1918"-- So, this adds that he was in "action" (though I don't think lobbing a few shells into undefended British coastal towns in 1914 counts as "combat") and has yet one more "system" of screwy award abbreviations. The February 1918 Marine Rangliste only showed his EK2 and RAO4 (PRAO4 here). His XXV from 1920 hadn't been awarded yet. His OK2 has been overlooked-- the "Stammliste" is not perfect on awards at all-- "PC" here = 1897 Centenary Medal "PRK3" = Prussian Red Cross Medal 3rd Class (next to last on his medal bar) RSt3 and RR (Russian Red Cross Medal) he is not wearing as enemy awards.
