leigh kitchen Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) The 11th Armoured Division was formed in the UK in March 1941, under Major General P.C.S.Hobart (later, in 1942 to command The 79th Armoured Brigade, "The Funnies", which wore a bulls head formation sign derived from that of the 11th Armoured - Hobart is thought to have designed both badges). The Divisional symbol was a chargng bull in black, with red detail, on a yellow rectangle (the division's motto was "Taurus Pursuant"). As part of 8th Corps, the 11th Armoured took part in the invasion of Normandy in 1944 and fought at Caen, took part in the breakout, & continued on through France, Belgium, Hollnd & Germany. Disbanded post WWII, the division was reformed in 1950 as part of The British Army of The Rhine & readopted its charging bull badge. In 1956, the 11th Armoured were converted to form the 4th Infantry Division, wearing a new sign of a red quadrant. Two slightly different versions of the painted version of the formation sign, an embroidered version, & a woven badge: Edited October 2, 2009 by leigh kitchen
