KWittig Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Hello, Recently, when my Grandmother passed away, I received a huge box of pictures. One picture was of my Great-Great-Grandfather Karl/Carl Johann Wittig. In the picture he is wearing a medal of some sort. He was born Sept 18, 1840 in Prussia, married a Juliane Zebee in Germany and had my Great-Grandfather, Richard Charles Wittig (seen on emmigration papers as Carl Jr.) on Aug 9, 1872. The three of them left Germany from Bremen, Germany on the ship Rhein and arrived in the port of New York on June 27, 1882. Here is the picture and then one of just the medal..... Any thoughts on what this one was? Thank you in advance for any and all help! Karen Wittig-Haley
Guest Rick Research Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I think the photo is of someone a generation older. That style of cravat and jacket lapels suggest the 1850s, not (from his age, born 1840) the 1880s. Where was the photo taken?
KWittig Posted January 26, 2010 Author Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) There is no date anywhere on the photo...No any location listed. The only thing is his name written on the back in pencil. Edited January 26, 2010 by KWittig
