Robin Lumsden Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) This is the 'false pocket flap' bit - so I think it's meant to be displayed like this rather than folded over. The braiding is in cotton-like material. There are 3 x vertical 1" leather loops at the back of this part - as if a rod or strap was to be threaded through them......a bit like a banner suspension. Robin Lumsden Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 Here's the buckle and braiding a bit closer......
Robin Lumsden Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) And I think this is a slightly clearer picture of the whole thing. You can just make out the leather 'tunnel' sewn along the top edge. The 'tunnel', the 3 loops on the back and the 'male/female' buckle and strap are what made me think it was a panel from a drum cover. I now don't know what it is.......but it looks nice hung up on the wall. Edited January 9, 2006 by Robin Lumsden
Robin Lumsden Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 Here's a panel from an SS kettle drum cover for comparison. Much more ornate of course, but you can see how I drew a comparison.
Robin Lumsden Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Having just come across the attached kettle drum panels for Panzer Regiment 7, I'm now pretty sure in my own mind that the thing that started this thread is a part of a LHR1 drum panel cover after all.
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Does not look ornate enough to be a regimental drum panel.
Robin Lumsden Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Does not look ornate enough to be a regimental drum panel.I agree. It's very plain and simple. But otherwise the construction, size, leather strap placements, etc. etc. all point to it being such a panel. There are plenty Imperial experts over here......but it's still a bit of a mystery.
