lawndart Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Hello I hope this is posted in the correct area, if not please accept my apologies. . I am looking to find some information regarding this particular medal. My father recently passed away and I have received some of his personal effects. In the package I received was a medal. I remember as a child him telling me of his war time childhood and his involvement at Monte Cassino. Never any detais other than he was there and later stationed in Edinburgh Scotland. I know he was a member of the Polish 2nd Corp Veterans Association in Toronto Ontario Canada many yeas ago but stopped attending functions there way back in the 70's. I have looked on the internet and have been able to find the medal itself ( Green ribbon with red and white stripe, Round medal with a mermaid and sword on one side cross with "Maj 1944" in center of cross 1944-1969 on edge of medal). What I'm trying to find out is who would be given these medals and under what circumstaces. My father was taken from his family in Poland at the beginning of the war and sent to Austria to work on a farm there. (Lucky considering what happened to many others) The thing that doesn't make sense is that at the time of the Polish battle of Monte Cassino my father was just 15 years old. I know he joined the Polish 2nd Corp I just don't know when. He may have joined at a very young age which I imagine isn't unheard of but was wondering if anyone had any information that might help me solve this little personal mystery. Thank you in advance.
