Kev in Deva
Hallo KDVR, Congratulations on your find, a beautiful piece, it looks exactly like the piece pictured on page 19 in the book:- "INSIGNELE AVIATIEI MILITARE / ROMANIAN AIRFORCE BADGES by Lt.cdor ® ILIESE MARCEL printed in Timisoara, Romania in 2007. Insignia Military Pilot Period Kind Mihai I " The new model returned in fact, to the old symbol of the eagle with its vertically stretched wings; the escutcheon was applied to the chest. The symbol of the Royal House was applied in the middle of the escutcheon (the shield with two white and two black squares) and the Royal Crown was on the shield. The classical type of this badge was made of silvered brass, but it also (is) also known a model that was made out of silver, pressed with a special pattern form, that was different from the classic one, but, that model is rarely met (seen) 41,8mm / 44,2mm The (fixing) attachment was done with a vertical clip and blocking system with a safety catch (type) for civilian pilots. There is another difference between the two badges (civil and military) in that the one belonging to the military pilots had red enamel in the crown placed on the shield of the escutcheon, while the civilian one did not. Pilots used to wear this badge on the left pocket of their jacket, but more often (than not) above it, half way between the superior seam and the pocket. The badge would be handed (issued) in an official atmosphere together with the official document. According to this document the owner had the right to wear it since then on(wards.) These badges were also issued to some German pilots during World War II. I hope you find the above information of some use.
