claretbaron Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The federated Autonomous Government of the Mongol Borderland(Meng-chiang) was established september 1,1939 in the japanese sphere of influence in eastern inner mongolia. To indicater its free Mongolian character, this government adopted a calendar dated from the birth of Genghis Khan. The National Foundation Merit Medal of this regime was struck in Japan to commemorate this event and was apparently awarded rather freely. most members of Meng-chiang goverment were killed by The communist party of China after october 1945.
drclaw Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Congratulations on your find! A very interesting piece indeed as is the history. I particularly like the Mongolian characters on the lacquer box as you normally only find kanzi or Chinese script on these.
