Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Acquired these over the past few months as part of a contuining interest in awards for the wounded/ next of kin etc.
Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Top centre is a nice quality piece by Gaunt with a non-prefixed number.
Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 South Africa with SA prefix and safety chain
Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Very hard to find Indian issue with "I" prefix.
Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 And a little gem that just arrived today, picked up on EBay for just £1.99. Note the safety chain worn with the SWB. Not clear until it is blown up quite considerably, but on his tie is worn a fouled anchor pin which would suggest he either a Royal Navy or Merchant Navy recipient. Still looking for the elusive "MN" and "O" prefixes but doubt if I will ever see the ultra-rare "N" for Newfoundland badges.
Rayjin Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Nice set ........ and I'm jealous. Been slowly collecting these myself, have a SA, RN, NZ and B versions, did have one with no prefix, but was contacted by the persons grandson who saw it after I had bought it (it came with documentation) so I returned the badge to the family. I still watch out for these, and for the Canadian enameled Services Rendered at the Front badge which are hard to find. Steve

Gordon Williamson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Just keep watching EBay, you'll' get them eventually. Virtually all the above pieces came from various parts of the world via EBay.
Rayjin Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Yep, those are the ones. Have thought about the Imperial Service badges as well. Steve
Tony Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I wish it was easier to find the name of the person behind the badge without having to pay a researcher. Tony
Gordon Williamson Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Recently acquired, here is a nice example of the "Honourable Discharge" document for wounded soldiers that recipients of the SWB would have received.
Bilco Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Ancestry have just put the Silver War Badge database online - http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2456&o_xid=49820&o_lid=49820&o_sch=Email Of course, you need a subscription to read it - but perhaps not tonight - there is free access to war time records today in honour of Pearl Harbour.
