Mervyn Mitton Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 This was the Chief Petty Officer tunic pattern for Sth. Africa - it has as the badge a gold lion on the sleeve - this was different to the British pattern. His ribbon bars are as mounted. He was obviously still serving until after the War.

Arthur R Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Very nice, Mervyn. From the look of it, this CPO served quite a bit after the war - at least until the late 1950s, but not long enough to earn a long service medal (18 years in those days). The lion badge replaced the orange diamond around 1949, and the springbok buttons were worn between 1959 and 1972.
Mervyn Mitton Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Thanks Arthur - I guessed that he must have continued in Service for a while - the medals didn't come through that quickly. As always thankyou for putting me right on the detailed SA knowledge - remember, I'm an Aussie at heart ! Mervyn
