Darron Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 The person in the attached photograph is my Grandfather. I believe he served in WW2 in the Polish Air Force. I dont know very much else about him apart from that he was based in Ruislip or Northolt in 1944. Please could you take a look at his uniform and see if you can work out if this is indeed a RAF Uniform and if so what rank it is? Any help would be greatly received. Many thanks Darron
Kev in Deva Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hallo Darron, Welcome to G.M.I.C. it would help if you could provide a larger picture as the detail is very obscure. I always ask, any written details to the rear of the picture? Kevin in Deva.
Darron Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Many thanks for your kind response Kevin. Unfortunately, I am unable to resize the picture but could email it to you? I know that he called himself John but on the back of the picture (which isnt easy to read) it says Jan/Jon Johana/Jahana. I know this isnt very helpful but the people that would know have since passed away. I was told that he was killed in the war but I am not sure if that was true as my Grandmother wasnt married to him. Darron
Kev in Deva Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I am posting this here for Darron I am in no way an expert however to my eye the jacket has no eppulattes, no apparant shoulder flashes. There appears to be a badge on the right collar / lapel The buttons look to be silver/gilt. Kevin in Deva.
