Does anyone have a copy of the book '5,000 miles with the Cheshire Yeomanry' by J.H. Cooke? It is cited against a couple of entries in the Boer War 1899-1902 - Soldier details database on findmypast. The book appears to be partially based on "letters and diaries written by officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the 21st and 22nd (Cheshire) companies of Imperial Yeomanry" and I was wondering if letters or daires of the soldiers I am interested in are included.

The entry for Arthur William Fraser (no. 1919 of 21 Co (Cheshire) 2 Battalion Imperial Yeomanry has '5,000 miles with the Cheshire Yeomanry by J.H. Cooke 306, 421'

The entry for William Arbuthnot Fraser (no.1840 21 Co (Cheshire) 2 Battalion Imperial Yeomanry has '5,000 miles with the Cheshire Yeomanry by J.H. Cooke 11, 306, 421'

If anyone has a copy of the book, please could you check those pages to see if there is any mention of the two Frasers and let me know what it says.

    Many thanks

I have the book "Cheshire Yeomanry". I have reviewed the index and paged through the entire book and cannot find the letters written by any of the Frasers. I have found a photo of Trooper Fraser of the 21st company guarding prisoner Le Clerk commissariat officer to the Boers on page 306, unfortunately I don't know which Fraser this is.Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

    Selwyn,

Thank you for checking the book for me. Interesting that there is a photo of a Fraser. Given the page reference, it could be one of the brothers, but I guess we will never know which one. Unfortunately, Le Clerk is a common a name so difficult to find out who he was, but something for me to follow up on. My interest in these two brothers is due to the fact that my Grandmother's eldest brother, Edward Alexander Barber (Ted), married the the Fraser's sister Amy. I know a bit about Ted who was also in the Imperial Yeomanry, but am trying to fill out the details of his life.

Many thanks for your assistance with this query.
