paul kennedy Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I've never seen another. Does anyone have any information about the medal beside the fact that it commemorates the establishment of the Second Empire? What does the ribbon look like? Thanks, Paul
Veteran Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 These souvenir medals were sold to who wanted them as a memento of a significant event. They were not meant to be worn on a ribbon. They also were considered to be useful political propaganda material Collectors who specialise in one particular period of french history like to have them. But they don't properly belong to a collection of awards. I hope this doesn't sound off-handed. Best regards
paul kennedy Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 It doesn't sound off-handed at all .I appreciate the information. I've never seen one before, and wanted to get more information about it. Are they at all common? Thank you
Veteran Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 They are quite frequently found in boxes of odds-and-ends at rumage sales or on flea-markets. If you specifically want them, then they are harder to find as usual. You can get them for a few pennies
