Guest Rick Research Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks once again to the Traveling Museum (quartering North America to share their finds with you all) here iss a (?) happy ending sword, for a change. As is most common in damascus presentation swords we see, it was a Fähnrich-to-Fähnrich piece, presneted while roommates (?) at a final courses Kriegschule--in this case Engers--before both were commissioned in 1899. It is a very large "oversize" lionhead, and from the crossed sabers, one might think cavalry--but other arms bore that emblem on their sabers' langets too.
Guest Rick Research Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 (edited) This was a "trans-species" gift, since the two young officers-to-be were in different armies. Major Fritz Steindamm retired at what was his 25th anniversary/earliest pension time. Major Karl Naumann also survived. What? You thought ALL these stories ended badly? After 1926, what became of these two...... no idea.: Edited July 15, 2013 by Rick Research
Chris Liontas Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Ok I have to ask, who is the traveling museum?? I must know
Guest Rick Research Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Anybody from GMIC who shows up to worship at the Altar Of Epson. It's quicker than typing out The Northeast Seaboard Chapter of the GMIC, Virginia-to-Maine. The cats and I have hosted 14 members (3 from Beyond The Seas) of GMIC here, though membership is fluid and I'm not always sure who's actually going to make it. You wouldn't believe the sissies who let 4 feet of snow in the first two weeks of this past March keep them off The Island! I had half the yard shovelled for 9 cars to fit in (one way streets thanks to crappy rural plowing) and only 4 showed up. This time being 86º inside the house wasn't an impediment to the usual gourmet dining, selection of fermented beverages, and cigars for those who bring 'em. Doesn't ANYBODY else party with their peeps?
