MORiS Specialna Brigada - Ministarstvo za Obrambo Republike Slovenije (MORiS)

Ministry of Defense Republic of Slovenia Special Brigade from the early 1990s. This was Slovenia's first military unit after independence and the forerunner of today's special forces. The tab Kočevska Reka commemorates one of the battles in Slovenia's War for Independence in 1991.

Prior to NATO membership in 2004, Slovenia's armed forces were based on territorial defense. This is a territorial defense patch from the Dolenjska Military District; southern part of country on border with Croatia. Known for it's mountains and bears.

This was the operational command from 2003-2013. Located at Ivana Cankarja Barracks in Vrhnika,

This is now called... Joint Operations Center or "Združeni operativni center"

20th Motorized Battalion ... patch is from 2004-05. Located in Celje, Slovenia. 2004-2013 subordinate to 1. Brigade.

Now it's subordinate to 72. Brigada and called a regiment... 20. pehotni polk ... 20. Infantry Regiment

Multinational Land Force is a brigade formed around units from Italy, Slovenia, and Hungary; headquarters is in Udine, Italy. The Italian brigade is the Brigata Alpina "Julia". This patch is from 2004-2005 and came with the 20. Motorized Battalion patch above - when the 20. Motorized Battalion was Slovenia's contribution to the brigade. Now I believe the 132. Mountain Regiment is Slovenia's contribution to the MLF.

The flags of the three countries make up the edge of the patch.

    45. Tank Battalion ... 45. oklepnega bataljona ... located in Pivka, Slovenia. This was one of the territorial units that was formed from two former tank units (44. Tank Battalion "Wolfs" and the 54. Tank Battalion). Now it continues as the 45. Center for Tracked Vehicles, subordinate to 157. Logistics Regiment. Slovenia really can't afford large armored forces and as a member of NATO really has no need... But this continues at least some armor capability for national defense.

These patches date from ca. 2004... Color and subdued.

    18. BRKBO = 18. bataljon za jedrsko, radiološko, kemično in biološko obrambo Slovenske vojske ... or in English... 18. NBC Defense Battalion

Another deactivated unit; NBC units are now in a special troops formation within each brigade... This patch dates from 2004-2005 when this unit was at the forefront of Slovenia's entry into NATO.. subdued version.

The first pin...commemorates the move from a conscript Army beginning in 1991 to a professional Army in 2003...

Pridruži se nam! was a recruiting slogan when the Slovenian Armed Forces decided to end conscription in 2003 and begin an all professional military. This pin was handed out at recruiting publicity events... (It basically translates as... "Join us!")
