Humber Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 (edited) I think two beautiful jewels:[attachmentid=30171]Past Masters Jewel[attachmentid=30172]Members JewelThe Scots Lodge No 2319 was formed on the heels of the London Scottish Rifles Lodge in 1889 when Bro. Vero Shaw learned there was no such lodge for Scottish civilians living in London. He met with the Grand Secretary of Scotland who supported the idea of such a lodge and suggested the name, but also informed Bro. Shaw such a lodge would need to be sanctioned and warranted by the United Grand Lodge of England. Thus it became a lodge for Scotsmen under the English Constitution. The Lodge badge, as depicted on the ribbon device, is meant to include the coats of arms of both the United Grand Lodge of England and the Grand Lodge of Scotland, as the two were seen to 'meet up' in the Scots Lodge. However, the coats of arms are both slightly different. The Grand Lodge of Scotland arms lacks the double red line border around the lion. The United Grand Lodge of England arms are further altered within the right hand section, the 'Antients' symbols. There is no lion, a deer instead of an ox, a two headed eagle instead of a single headed eagle and a bishop or high clergyman instead of a bearded prophet. The quality of the jewel indicates these alterations must have been intentional although the reasons behind the changes remain obscure. Edited March 9, 2006 by Humber
