Info on This Iron Cross

This Iron Cross was in a box of medals from my grandfather. He was in the AH submarine service in WW1, an officer in the First Austria Republic and the a Quartermaster with the Gebirgs Jagers in the German Army in WW2. His Ribbon Bar does not show it. My Uncle was in the Gebirgs Pioneer in WW2 and was killed outside Murmansk in 1941. I have his military record.

What would be the best posibility?

On the ring is stamped "22" which is the code for Boerger & Co who made the cross.  Jim
