Diane Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Does anyone recognize the uniform in the top photo? It has a serpent clasp belt & puttees on the legs. The name on the back of the photo is Sidney Scott. There are 2 Sidney Scotts. Sidney Scott Sr was born in London in 1857 and died in Camberwell, London 1910. His son also named Sidney Scott (positively identified in the second photo), was born in England in 1894 but came to Canada in 1912. He died in 1944 in Ontario. Sidney Scott Jr was a sapper in the 53rd Battalion Royal Canadian Engineers. I am trying to understand if the first photo is the father and the second the son or if the first photo just a younger version of Sidney Junior. It is a different uniform in any event. Is the first uniform possibly before WW1? The elder was deceased before the start of WW1. Thank you.
Tony Farrell Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 The young chap in the top photo is Royal Fusiliers with a Territorial Force battalion as he appears to be wearing territorial shoulder titles. The other chap is 'possibly' East Yorkshire Regiment. Both shots are typical wartime studio photos. Neither are wearing Canadian pattern tunics. Make of that what you will.
