RIA campaign officer's cap

I am collecting pieces of RIA, I recently purchased an interesting RIA campaign officer's cap but there is no chinstrap or tracks of buttons holding such a piece of equipment. The fact is that all period pictures show campaign officers' caps with chinstrap ... could anyone give me an explanation ? Thank you ...
