JewittDan Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I am very new to collecting Japanese medals and badges and obviously new to the buyers market. I am already noticing copies in places like eBay. Do we have a place where known copies are saved for collectors reference? What are the most commonly copied items I should be keeping my eyes open for? (photos for attention) 1
TracA Posted September 26 Posted September 26 JewittDan, To my knowledge there is no single repository on GMIC for fake Japanese medals and badges. Ditto for the War Relics Forum. Nor is there a single repository on Medals of Asia (to my knowledge), although a user can always search by the word "fake" on Medals of Asia and try to get at the information that way. Tracy 1
TracA Posted September 29 Posted September 29 JewittDan, It is a great idea. Sadly I would be a poor contributor. I have very little experience handling and identifying fakes. Unless the item is an obvious fantasy piece, I just don't have the experience. Tracy
No one Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Dear Gentlemen, Orders and medals made in Europe can be viewed as fake. Yours sincerely, No one 1

No one Posted September 30 Posted September 30 (edited) Dear JewittDan, "Do you have any photos of European copies that you’d like to share?" A genuine 4th class: A French made 4th class: A fake made in somewhere (the case seems ok) : There are copies made in both in Russia and Taiwan. Although they are sold as copies or replicas, what will the buyers do or say if they decide to resell them? Yours sincerely, No one PS: Identifying these two medals as fake on a French forum caused me a lot of problems. Edited October 1 by No one 2

No one Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Dear JewittDan, "Oh dear! Were the owners not very happy?" No, they were not. The owner of the French copy was particularly unhappy. Yours sincerely, No one
