Douglas Jr. Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Hi,Here are some Brazilian medals from WWII. As you may know, Brazil sent a 25,000-troops force (the Brazilian Expeditionary Force - FEB) to Italy, where they fought along with the 10th US Mountain Division from October 1944 til the end of hostilities. Also, a Fighter-Bomber unit was sent, equipped with the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.Well, here are three medals related to the Brazilian participation in WWII.Wishes,Douglas.
Douglas Jr. Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 This one is called "Sangue do Brasil" (Brazil?s Blood) and it was the equivalent to the American Purple Heart, i.e., awarded to wounded soldiers. Most were made in England and brought to Brazil after the war. Only around 500 were produced and no replacement pieces are awarded today. A tough one to find.
Douglas Jr. Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 Campaing Medal with FEB clasp(Medalha de Campanha da FEB)Awarded to every soldier that went to Italy.
Douglas Jr. Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 Medalha de Guerra (War Medal)Awarded only to officers who took part in combat zones or in the war effort.
Dolf Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Very nice Medals, Douglas! Thanks for posting them.Dolf
Kev in Deva Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Hallo Doug, very interesting medals, from a country that sadly, hardly rates a mention, with regard its service in WW2thank you very much for showing them Kevin in Deva,
Guest Rick Research Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Were there also awards for service "at home," for the navy and air force? Lots of combat action against Uboats etc right offshore. It is an oddity of collecting that ALLIES never see each other's awardsbecause friends keep theirs at homewhile everybody brought home ENEMY souvenirs!
