paja Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) In 1998 a new law on decorations of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was passed. This law introduced 63 decorations divided in orders (17), grand decorations (5) and medals (7). Some of these decorations were the same as the decorations of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, some were just slightly different (for example using the new coat of arms instead of the old one or instead of the five-pointed star). This law on the other hand introduced some completly new decorations such as grand decorations. As i wrote before there were five of them: 1. Medal of Obilić, 2. Medal of Honour, 3. Medal of Cvijić, 4. Medal of the White angel and 5. Medal of Philantropy. Medal of Philantropy (Medalja čovekoljublja) was awarded for helping the sick, wounded and internally displaced persons or refugees above and beyond the call of duty. Edited April 26, 2012 by paja
Megan Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Fascinating... I had the medal listed on my site (although I translated it as 'Medal of Humanity') but did not know for what it was awarded nor what it looked like. Would you be willing to permit me to use the images? (With due acknowledgement, of course.)
paja Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Humanity or philantropy it's not that different. Humanity means čovečnost and philantropy čovekoljublje so it's almost the same. You are more than welcome to use my images on your site. If you need some help considering decorations of FRY I'm willing to help you as much as I can. Best regards, Radmilo
Megan Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Thank you, Radmilo - may I have your full name for the acknowledgement, please (PM if you prefer). I do need help with FRY - please look over that section of my site: I'd be grateful for any corrections or additional information/images that you are able to share!
paja Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Megan you are welcome. Here's a picture of one more grand decoration - Medal of Obilić from the site of Belgrade's Military Museum. http://www.muzej.mod...n/#.T5kueLMthK0 This decoration was awarded for acts of personal heroism in defense of nation and state above and beyond the call of duty.
