I would guess a latvian fake, the swaz looks wrong and the suspension loop is to long. Poor finishing on the eyelet

Had an old boy come into the shop with this said it came from a pre WW2 submarine, no pussers mark, any thoughts, thanks, Paul

The young man in the photo does not appear to have any relation to anything having to do with flight. First, he is a Gemeine, a basic recruit. That eliminates any chance of him flying. Secondly, if the uniform was related to flight, he would have Litzen on his collar. If there is a relationship, you cannot tell it from the photo.
The two cases are quite nice.

The left one shows use of a rivit on the back to supposedly secure the bird, but I believe the bird is NOT seperately applied. Details to the trickery employed are fascinating!!
And these little beuties would have cost me ?400 or so each
